Cat of the Week: Sky

Julia D Cat of the Week

Sky is a sweet boy that decided he didn’t want to live the farm life anymore. He loves a good toy to play with, balls, mice, or catnip toys – Sky loves them all. He would love to snuggle up with someone and watch movies with. He is great with other cats and we think with proper introduction dogs might be ok too.

Sky’s adoption fee is $85 and includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, and a microchip with free lifetime registration.

Julia D Cat of the Week

Kitty is a shy girl that is looking for a home to relax in with her human. She has the unique markings of a Bengal cat along with the green eyes. Kitty is so soft and very friendly but she isn’t the biggest fan of being picked up. She would do best in a home with older kids and with no dogs.

Kitty’s adoption fee is $85 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, and a microchip with free lifetime registration.

If Kitty is the kitty for you, please complete an adoption application HERE.

Dog of the Week: Warren

Julia D Dog of the Week

You may not be able to see it from Warren’s pictures, but he has a gorgeous double coat much like a shepherd or a husky would have! Warren very much appreciates attention from people and will gladly lean against your leg and stop to enjoy belly rubs at any time! He seems pretty neutral with other dogs but has not been introduced to cats. Warren joined Last Hope after he had spent many months as a stray in Southern Iowa.  We’re told he spent cold winter months by himself, and that he was only caught by animal control when he wandered into someone’s fenced yard.   We don’t see Warren as being an escape artist but would want to make sure his future owner is aware that he may be a flight risk until he settles into his new home and bonds with his new family.

Warren’s adoption fee is $250 and includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Cat of the Week: Ambush

Julia D Cat of the Week

Ambush is a sweet boy who’s full of spunk, energy, and love. When he came to a previous rescue, he had a tail injury and it was too far gone to be saved, so he had to have his tail amputated. He doesn’t seem to mind as it doesn’t slow him down or stop him from begging for attention. He’s playful and loves string toys and would love to cuddle up on your lap. Ambush is FEeLV-positive, so he would need to be around other cats who are also positive or be a solo cat. There is no danger of transmitting the virus to humans and FELV-positive cats can live long and healthy lives. If you’re looking for some affection and energy, Ambush is your guy.

The adoption fee for Ambush is $50 and includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, and a microchip with free lifetime registration.

If Ambush sounds like the kitty for you, please complete an adoption application HERE.

Dog of the Week: Diesel

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hubba, hubba…check out Diesel! This handsome young guy, believed to be around 3 years old, is on the prowl for a new home.  Diesel is a smart and loving dog, he loves to be around people so an owner with a flexible schedule will be a great fit for him! Diesel is not a fit with cats or smaller dogs, he loves to play and has wonderful young dog energy that they wouldn’t appreciate.  He will be best suited with a female dog that is non-dominant and around his size, or as an only dog with a dog savvy dog owner.  Diesel has been slowly introduced to daycare at Cedar Run, and he will be a star pupil in the FREE obedience class included in his adoption fee! Diesel is friendly with all people, although he ultimately wants a home with older kids who will play with him.

The adoption fee for Diesel is $250 and includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with free lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Volunteer of the Month: Pam Kabela

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Pam Kabela has been fostering cats and kittens for a year and a half for Last Hope. She takes on pregnant mamas and newborn babies.

It all started with Shiloh, a cat she rescued from work. Shiloh had four babies but took on an additional four babies from another mother cat that couldn’t care for them. Shiloh continues to help out with kittens.

Pam says she has learned a lot from her fellow volunteers and loves caring for the mommies and babies. She loves the excitement in the new family’s faces, although she does shed a few tears when she has to hand them over. But she’s happy for all when a cat finds a forever home.

Caring for newborn kittens takes a lot of dedication and patience. We are lucky to have volunteers like Pam to help with the little ones and their moms. Thank you for all you do, Pam!

Cat of the Week: Savannah

Julia D Cat of the Week

Savanah had a rough start in life. She spent the first few years raised in a hoarding house, having multiple litters of kittens as well. She was then rescued along with her 5 four-day-old kittens. Savannah was shy and hesitant when she got to her foster home, however, she wouldn’t ever turn down a good head scratch. Her foster mom quickly found out she hadn’t ever experienced things a normal house cat had. She didn’t know what toys were and wasn’t held much. Through time and patience, Savannah has learned and experienced what it’s like to be loved. She has all the toys she can play with. A bunch of windows to sunbathe, watch leaves fall and watch birds flutter around. She has lots of cozy blankets and beds to sleep on. She enjoys being up high, not to hide, but to overlook her castle. Savannah would do best in a home with another friendly cat. She learns a lot from having a role model and gains confidence in having a companion. She loves to play with the younger cats and snuggle with the older cats in her foster home. She enjoys being loved and scratched, she isn’t one to be picked up or lay in your lap (yet). So older children would be recommended.

Savannah’s adoption fee is $85 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, and a microchip with free lifetime registration.

Happy Tail: Phobos

Julia D Happy Tails

Last Hope rescued Phobos (formerly Scooby) from an abandoned house in northern Iowa. We couldn’t believe someone would leave him behind because he’s been such a great dog from day one!

Cara and Atulya were referred to Last Hope from friends who had adopted from us in the past. They met Phobos and just knew he was the dog for them. They appreciated the adoption process because it told them Last Hope isn’t just interested in helping people adopt a dog, but we want them to adopt the RIGHT dog for them.

Phobos gets along with everyone: dogs, cats, babies, young children, strangers, elderly people, and does great in a crowd. Squirrels? Well, they’re another story!

The adjustment period was pretty smooth. At first, he was a little nervous when they left but after a while he could trust that they would always come back so he accepted being left alone at times. Phobos loves attention. He has a “job” – he visits hospice patients and he loves getting all the attention. He loves visiting friends, walks, and visits to the dog park. Cara and Atulya even have a bike wagon so they can take him along on bike rides. He even has a doggy best friend, Daphne! He is very well-behaved but can get a little stubborn sometimes. He gets along well with their cat, Moon and most of all, he makes his family laugh.

Phobos is known around town as being a very friendly dog and Cara and Atulya like to take him wherever dogs are allowed. They feel grateful that they contacted Last Hope and got matched up with Phobos.

And we’re grateful that they opened their lives and home to Phobos. He really hit the jackpot. Thank you Cara, Atulya, and Moon!
