Dog of the Week: Harper

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hi, my name is Harper. I want to warn you, if you meet me, you will fall in love with me! I am a five-year-old silver lab and I weigh 75 lbs. I love to play fetch and tug of war, love to snuggle, and will be your lap dog if you will let me! I have only been in my foster home for a short while, but I am healthy and ready to find my loving forever home. I am a little scared when I first meet new people, but in a very short time I will warm up to you and not leave your side. I love all people and especially boys, guess that must be because I am a girl? Because of my shyness, I would prefer that if there are young people in my home that they be over 16.

I love my people so much that I can be a bit protective, so a fully physically-fenced yard is a must for me. I like to go for rides, like to play with other dogs who are close to my size, but mostly I love people. I like to play with toys and chew on bones but I am very smart and don’t chew on anything else. I also know commands like sit, stay, lay and am so smart that I learn new things really quickly! (I don’t mind bragging because I know I’m that awesome!). I will bark to let you know when I need to go outside and I know not to go in the house.

Harper’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a free obedience class. If you’re interested in Harper, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cat of the Week: Tuffet

Julia D Cat of the Week

Tuffet is a super friendly guy – has a beautiful RED TABBY coat which is rather plush, and beautiful gold eyes.  He purrs easily and enjoys attention.  He will probably get along with kids of any age!  Has not been tested yet with dogs or other cats, but since he came in with another cat, with proper introduction, we are guessing he’ll be just fine.  He is just a sweet boy and is ready for his furrever family to find him and take him to his new home!! Judging from his teeth on 3/14/18, this fairly good sized boy (6.6#) is only about 4 1/2 months old as he does not have his 6-month molars yet.

Interested in this adorable kitten?  You can stop out and meet him at the Waterloo, IA PetSmart Store, 1506 Flammang Dr. in the Crossroads Shopping Center area.  Their normal business hours are Monday-Saturday 9:00-9:00 and Sunday’s from 10:00-7:00; holiday hours may vary.  He is residing at the Pet Adoption Center.  Don’t be afraid to ask an employee to let you spend a bit of time with him if you are truly interested in adopting!

Tuffet’s adoption fee is $100 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip. You can complete an adoption application HERE.

Dog of the Week: Julie

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hello, my name is Julie and I am 39 lbs. and really still a puppy at a year and a half.  Everyone tells me I have the prettiest eyes ever and that I am super soft! I have loved all the attention from all the volunteers, I love everyone I meet! I love to run and play in the yard but I also like to sit with you and get attention and petted.

I’m staying here at the Last Hope adoption center and even though I have loved all the people and the dogs here, I would love a foster or forever home of my own. I would really like a home with a dog friend but no cats, please.  I really love treats!! People say I’m treat motivated and will be easy to train and because I like to please my people. I can’t wait to meet you, I know I’ll love you at first sight!

Julie’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a free obedience class. If you’re interested in Julie, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cat of the Week: Broxton

Julia D Cat of the Week

Hi, my name Broxton but I answer to Brock.  I came from a hoarding situation with a bunch of other cats and dogs.  Everyone who meets me says I am very sweet and laid back, but I can also be shy.  Sometimes when I am unsure of things I like to find a high place so I can watch and study the situation.   I would love to find a home with one or two other cats or dogs because I do like the company of others if we are properly introduced to each other.

While most cats like to sit on laps I prefer to lay on my foster mama’s chest and shoulders.  When I lay there I can rub my neck or forehead on her chin and start to purr. I get some really wonderful kisses on the top of my head and the more the better.   I can be a little cautious when meeting new humans, but if you sit down for about 5 minutes to let me figure you out I quickly warm up and have fun making friends with you.  I would love to meet you and become part of your life.

Broxton’s adoption fee is $85 and includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip. If you’re interested in Broxton, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Volunteer of the Month: Kiley Eastwood

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Kiley has been a volunteer with Last Hope since January 2017. She first signed up to foster because she wanted to help animals in need and she recently lost a family dog but they weren’t ready to adopt. She fostered two dogs in the first eight months; one of which was a “foster failure” meaning Kiley ended up adopting her.

Mona, the foster failure, came from Houston with heartworm and two bad hips. Kiley fostered her through all of her treatments and decided she just couldn’t let her go and they adopted her in September 2017.

After she adopted Mona, Kiley decided not to foster anymore because she didn’t have space. At that time she started volunteering as a foster lead. Foster leads have foster homes assigned to them and they assist the foster homes with a variety of things and make sure things run smoothly.

Kiley also processes applications for adoptions and foster homes, has recently started helping with transports, and has dipped her toes into the intake process. Kiley says, “I recently began fostering a senior dog (who needs extra space, anyway?!).”

She loves volunteering for Last Hope because it gives her a sense of purpose and helps her feel like she’s doing something to help change the world. “I love being able to help out this great organization and I think it’s a beautiful thing we get to do every single day by helping these amazing animals.”

Well, we think YOU’RE pretty amazing, Kiley! Thank you for all you do for Last Hope!

Dog of the Week: Goliath

Julia D Dog of the Week

I’m Goliath and I’m looking for a loving home where I can stay permanently because I’ve been moved around a lot recently. I can be a bit shy why you first meet me but once I’ve warmed up to you, I love to have my head and ears rubbed.

My foster mom and dad say I’m a real catch and someone better scoop me up! They have a fenced in yard and it really is my favorite so I’d like a forever home with the same so I can have some space outside to explore. I perk up instantly if you get a treat bag.  I’ll be a very patient boy and sit for the treat you give me!  Please contact Last Hope if you have the perfect home for me!

Goliath’s adoption fee is $200 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a free obedience class. If you’re interested in Goliath, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cat of the Week: Meelah

Julia D Cat of the Week

Meelah is a beautiful, sweet girl. She is a gentle three-year-old torti with the most amazing coloring that complements her gorgeous tan colored eyes. This baby girl loves attention and would make a loving companion in your home.

She may want you to herself and not want to share you with other furry friends but may also do just fine with a proper introduction. Lap pet, cuddles, purrs, and even a playful girl too, Meelah is the purr-fect kitty package for you!

Meelah’s adoption fee is $85 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip. If you’re interested in Meelah, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Dinah

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hello, I am Dinah! I am about 2 yrs old and a very happy go lucky girl! I love every person I meet! I am a little too interested in cats, so I probably shouldn’t have a home with cats.  With a slow introduction, I may get along with other dogs in your home.  I love toys and would love for someone to teach me new things and take me on adventures!

Dinah’s adoption fee is $250.00 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a free obedience class.

If you’re interested in Dinah, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Happy Tail: Hurricane Peach

Julia D Happy Tails

When Jen and Scott were looking to add a dog to their family they felt that adopting was the best way so Jen researched places to adopt and found Last Hope Animal Rescue online. Once they looked at our available dogs and found one they wanted to meet, the process was pretty smooth. They had no trouble letting Last Hope volunteers check their home and call their references.

Once Hurricane Peach came into their home she fit right in! They have another dog, Kinnick, and they got along just fine. Two messes in the house but then Peaches caught on and there have been no problems since. They also liked the free obedience class at Cedar Run that they got with their adoption.

Jen says they chose Peaches based on size, temperament, age, and breed. They knew they needed a dog that would fit into their active lifestyle and become a lifelong friend to their then one-year-old son, Zane.

She says Hurricane Peach is a great addition to their family. Zane, who is now two-years-old loves to play fetch with her. She is very outgoing and even catches squirrels with their eight-year-old dog, Kinnick.

Jen says they think Hurricane Peach is part coyote! She loves adventures including kayaking, camping, hiking, catching squirrels, visiting the neighbors, annoying Kinnick, playing fetch, kissing Zane, going through the Starbuck’s drive-thru, and destroying her toys!

Sounds like Hurricane Peach found the perfect forever home that’s full of fun adventures! Thank you Jen, Scott, Zane, and Kinnick for taking her in and loving her.

Cat of the Week: De Ja Vu

Julia D Cat of the Week

When you are involved in a rescue of several cats at one time, it’s like deja vu when you find yet another black & white beauty!  So that’s how this sweetheart got her name… we thought De Ja Vu would be the purrfect name for her!  She is a black & white domestic shorthair female and is guesstimated to be about 3-4 years old as of July 2017.   When rescued, we had no idea which cats were the mama kitties to the 4 kittens we found – 3 of which were about 5 weeks old and one which was about 2 weeks old or so.  De Ja Vu took to the little gray & white baby (we named Rio) so we assumed she was his mama, but the other mama wasn’t interested in nursing her three babies, so De Ja Vu lovingly accepted them and nursed them, too!  Such a sweet, loving girl who had gone through a lot being rescued from a flooded home, but she wasn’t about to neglect the babies!

Don’t you just love that adorable face with that cute little black splotch on her nose – and those eyes… the gorgeous gold eyes!  WOW! She’s rather petite, and just absolutely loves to be petted and loved on!  She might be a tad bit timid when she first meets you, but that doesn’t last long if you show her some love and attention! She’s still quite young, so she has years and years of love to share with you!  She’s been around other cats, so should do fine if properly introduced to others; dogs are unknown.  She’s such a sweet girl, we think she’ll do great with kids, too – if properly introduced!

De Ja Vu’s adoption fee is $85 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip. If you’re interested in this cutie, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.
