Happy Tail: Huckleberry (formerly Ruthie)

Eric and Dana had already adopted a dog from Last Hope so they were familiar with the process and looked to us when they were ready for another dog. They made arrangements to meet Huckleberry (Ruthie) and that went well so they fostered her for a week before deciding to adopt her.
It took a little while for Huckleberry to be comfortable in her new home and for Eric and Dana to bond with her. They realized it was a process that couldn’t be rushed so they were patient and a great relationship was created.

Huckleberry is extremely alert so she is a good protector. She loves walks and playing ball (although she refuses to bring back the ball so their yard is riddled with tennis balls!). She enjoys being chased by Trigg, a dog they sometimes foster. And in return, she slobbers on his ears. Huckleberry also loves fishing, hiking, and camping. In fact, she has camped with them in six states. She’s also a lover and likes getting kisses.
Eric says, “We are thankful for finding Huckleberry. Great Pyrenees/Australian Shepherds make a great family breed to adopt. My advice to anyone wanting to adopt, bonding with a dog that may have trauma takes time, so take it slow and don’t expect a fast fit.”

We say it all the time, but we want to make sure people understand before they adopt that it may take patience in the beginning. Eric and Dana understood that and the reward is a close relationship between them and Huckleberry. Huckleberry is lucky to have such a loving, patient, and stable forever home.
