Volunteer of the Month: Valinda Meyer

Valinda hasn’t been volunteering for very long (since November of 2023), but she’s already made a huge difference with the cats of Last Hope. She saw a couple of postings on Facebook from friends who volunteer and foster for Last Hope and decided to check it out because she and her husband Dale have been longtime advocates for adopting homeless and rescued pets.

When asked about her time volunteering, here is what she had to say:

“I am a professional handmaid to my furry feline overlords who live on-site in the towers and
condominiums at Last Hope Animal Rescue. We have some picky eaters so as sous chef, I make
certain that their nutritional needs are fully met while bringing delight to their sometimes
discriminating palates. Cattitude abounds among the 40 or so royal occupants and a lot of
partying goes on while I am away – all of which requires my most masterful skills as a kennel
cleaner, broom pusher, and poop scooper. When I have done a good job, my royal wards bestow their highest awards on me – head-butts, biscuits, and motor-boat purrs.”

Valinda likes volunteering at Last Hope because she gets to be a pet parent for so many worthy fur babies. Each one with their own unique personality, feels like “her cat.” She is happy for them when they are adopted, but a little sad for herself because she will miss caring for them.

The kitties are lucky to have such a dedicated and skillful volunteer looking out for them!
