Volunteer of the Month: Sherri Tow-Selensky

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

For about four years, Sherri Tow-Selensky has been a dedicated volunteer working primarily with the cats at Last Hope. She gives food and water, administers medication, cleans litter boxes, general cleaning, cat socialization, and restocks supplies. She has also helped with a few meet-and-greets at the Center and has been training new volunteers for about two years. Sherri has also volunteered at Barks & Brew, our major fundraising event.

Sherri came to know about Last Hope by adopting a dog and a couple of cats from us. Her kids were getting older and she was looking for a volunteer opportunity with animals so she thought of Last Hope. She has had cats all her life so she felt that area was a good fit for her.

When asked why she likes to volunteer at Last Hope Sherri said, “I think that Last Hope is a great organization with great people.  There are so many volunteer opportunities available to fit your interests and availability. Everyone is so passionate about animals and is fun to volunteer with at the center and at events. I have met a lot of new people there over the years.” Sherri also finds it rewarding to work with cats that may be scared or have medical issues and watch them progress over time until they’re ready to be adopted. She also loves to hear updates from families who have adopted cats from Last Hope!

Sherri has a full house with her husband Larry, Natalie (18), and Nate (15).  Then cats Ollie, Izzy, and Moe and dogs Sully, Arlo, and Mira. And they have had backyard chickens since 2012.

Sherri may be busy between family and work obligations, but she always helps out as much as she can at Last Hope and is dedicated to the cats at the Center. She is definitely a great addition to our team!
