Volunteer of the Month: Rachel Palmer

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Rachel Palmer has been volunteering with the dogs since last fall. She and her wife had lost two dogs in 2020 and were online looking for a new family member. They came across Last Hope on PetFinder and put in an application.  On the day they were supposed to meet a potential adoptee, the derecho hit. So the meet and greet was put on hold until Rachel’s power came back on and they were able to get their fence fixed. They finally got to meet Beto and decided he was the right dog for them.

Rachel works with the dogs at the Adoption Center (cleaning kennels, giving food and water, administering medication, socializing them, etc.). She and her wife also foster dogs in their home. Lately, her schedule has not permitted her to go to the Center in the mornings so she takes time in the early afternoon to walk at least one dog.

Rachel says, “I like volunteering at Last Hope because it’s literally the end of the road for some of these dogs. They wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for Sonia and Last Hope. And there are some great dogs there.”

Thank you, Rachel, for all you and your family does for the dogs of Last Hope!
