Volunteer of the Month: Darcy McGuire and Family

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Kara and Elliot

Darcy McGuire has done MANY things for Last Hope: Fostering, events, fundraising, baking, processing applications, transports, adoptions, foster lead, home visits, meet and greets, matchmaking, helping with the intake of dogs, and scanning and uploading medical records. Her husband and two daughters have been involved with some of these tasks as well and have been an enormous help to Darcy and the dogs they foster. Here is some of her history in her own words:

Zoey

“Our family found Last Hope through Petfinders when we were looking to adopt a puppy. Funny we didn’t even know about Last Hope. I was wanting to find somewhere I could volunteer and would truly enjoy. A volunteer had told me ‘Darcy you should foster, what a better way to find the perfect puppy to adopt and Last Hope always needs fosters.’ A short few weeks and we had puppies in our home. We did adopt one of the girls but kept on fostering. Some have been long-term fosters. Our family has fostered 18 or more since 2015. I have to confess a few fosters I had to sneak in after my husband went to bed! We as a family have foster failed three times now.

Izzy

I have always loved dogs. Growing up my family always had at least one dog at a time. If ever I would find a loose dog I would do my best in finding its home. By the way, if you see a white Sorento circling your neighborhood, it could very well be me trying to catch a loose dog!

When I went to orientation to become a volunteer I found there were many great ways to volunteer. There were opportunities for everyone. Being a person who has a big heart for animals I was very excited. Often I found myself overextended but always found my way.”

We are grateful for volunteers like Darcy and her family!
