September Volunteer of the Month: Aleah Longner
Aleah has been a volunteer for Last Hope only since late January of this year, but she hit the ground running and makes many contributions. She came to Last Hope after wanting to volunteer at a rescue and finding us on the internet.
She works one or two cat shifts a week which entails feeding, washing dishes, clean litter boxes, and sweep and clean up the cat room. The cat volunteers are also responsible for giving any necessary medications. Aleah also takes pictures of the new cats and uploads them to their online biographies so everyone can see how cute they are!
She has also volunteered to transport cats to veterinary appointments and helps out at open houses, microchipping events, and at events like Barks & Brew.
In addition to her direct work with the cats, Aleah also puts in hours on the computer because she says even if she can’t physically be at the Adoption Center she can help out from home. She enters the descriptions for the cat biographies that potential adopters see on the website, uploads medical files from veterinary visits, and uses the medical files to update their profiles. Recently she began working on a project to keep track vaccinations so it’s easier to know when they are due for their vaccines. And if all that wasn’t enough, she is learning the adoption process and is excited to get involved in that aspect of Last Hope.
When asked why she likes volunteering for Last Hope she said,
“I am very fond of volunteering for Last Hope because I love their mission to put the needs of animals first. It’s so nice to be a part of a heroic team of compassionate animal lovers like myself. Helping animals is my passion and I’m thrilled to finally be able to put this passion to good use. I feel like this is very valuable work and worthwhile to take time out of your day to help make a difference in the lives of homeless animals. They need our help and I’m happy to help them out.”
Aleah also adopted a Last Hope kitty a few months ago and she loved giving her a forever home. The cat gained three brothers: Aleah’s other rescue cats!
Thank you, Aleah, for all your hard work with the animals and behind the scenes! We’re a better team because you’re a part of it.
