Happy Tail: Winston

Julia D Happy Tails

Kelsey was in PetSmart one day getting supplies for her cat and dog and saw there were adoptable cats from Last Hope in the store. She saw Winston (formerly Binx) and immediately fell in love. She and her fiance, Kevin, had talked about adopting a black cat because they had heard they stay longer in rescues than other cats due to superstitions. The adoption process was easy and they took Winston home later that week.

Winston was rescued from a storm drain so he’s still learning that not all humans are bad. He’s still getting used to being loved, but he’s gone from not wanting to be touched to climbing into their laps when he wants some loving. He cuddles with their black lab every day and plays with their other cat constantly.

He loves to play and will drag out every toy from the toy bucket. Kevin built them a “catio” (an area outside that is screened) so the cats can be outside and still be safe. Winston loves to hang out there and listen to the birds for hours at a time. Winston loves blankets and given the chance will snuggle on them in a heartbeat. He likes to lay with his paws stretched out so they’re touching Kelsey or Kevin. And he has really big eyes that grow larger whenever he hears a noise.

About adopting Kelsey says, “Remember when adopting a shelter animal, they are in an unfamiliar environment and sometimes unable to be themselves. The Winston we found at the shelter is not the same Winston we have now. He is so much more comfortable and able to really open up. Don’t count an animal out because of their behaviors in the shelter, keep an open mind because most likely they will come out of their shell as the days go by. We can’t imagine our lives without Winston and are so blessed to have him as a part of our family!”

Looks like Winston hit the jackpot that day when Kelsey walked into PetSmart! We’re so grateful he has found such a wonderful place to call his forever home.
