Happy Tail: Lola (formerly Journi)

Alyanna was poking around on the internet and found Last Hope. She and Mitchell looked at the dogs at LHAR and found Journi (now Lola). They wanted a smart and active dog, and she seemed to fit the bill. They completed an application and met her soon after.

It was the middle of winter when they adopted Lola, so there were definite challenges. Because Lola likes to be active, keeping her stimulated was difficult at times. They also live in a 3rd floor apartment, so the potty training was a process. But they managed well and are now thriving in the warmer weather.

She loves to run or walk in the mornings and then goes to work with her dad, who works outside. She is able to sunbathe and chase squirrels. After a long day of lounging around while Dad works, it’s an evening nap and a session of fetch.

Lola has some challenges that they have had to adjust to. According to Alyanna, “Lola tends to be reactive towards strangers (specifically strangers who stare at her) and things she’s afraid of (anything with wheels), so we’ve had to adjust some of our expectations with owning a dog.”

What a great way to look at it. We all have wants and expectations when it comes to bringing a furbaby into our lives. But, as with anything in life, we rarely get exactly what we want. It takes some give and take on both sides for a successful transition. We must be prepared not to have the “perfect” dog or cat, and they have to adjust to a whole new way of life with new people. Patience and flexibility are key. You must also be willing to adjust your expectations.

Alyanna and Mitchell love her intelligence and ability to learn new things quickly. And she gives great morning cuddles! Lola loves to run, play tug, fetch, chase bugs and bunnies, and steal socks. Hey, we all have at least ONE bad habit!

We are glad that Lola found Alyanna and Mitchell because she has the wonderful, active life she needs and deserves.
