Happy Tail: Little

Julia D Happy Tails

Little came to us from a terrible hoarding situation when she was 18 years old. She was completely shut down and didn’t seem to know how to “cat.” In early 2020, Diedra signed up to be a cat foster and she told us that she had a soft spot for senior kitties. It was a great match! Diedra began fostering Little in April 2020. In January 2022, Little became a “foster failure” when Diedra decided to make it official and adopt her. Little is now 20 years old and living her best life.

When Diedra took in Little, she was quite scared. At first, she had no voice – no purring, no meowing. But over time she has found her voice and now purrs and “talks” a lot. With time, patience, and love she has grown into a cat that is confident in her space and her little kingdom in Diedra’s home.

Diedra says of Little, “It has been my most happy pleasure to share my space with her as she finds herself and becomes the kitty she was meant to be. She is still cautious and shy and sometimes reverts back to her damaged self.  I guess there is such a thing as kitty PTSD. But I just allow her to be who she needs to be and I think she’s very happy in her daily routine and a dependable kitty kingdom with someone who loves her and understands her.”

When asked what she likes about Little, Diedra said that she admires how courageous and brave she is. She’s a survivor and an example for us when we face difficult things in life. Little has come out the other side and shows us that you can face horrible situations and still build a life for yourself that is happy and rewarding.

Diedra is retired but jokes that her full-time job is as Little’s servant. The wages are next to nothing but the rewards are numerous and great! We are so thankful to Diedra for providing such a loving home for Little. And she put a lot of work into making sure Little felt safe and secure enough to come out of her shell. This truly is a happy tail!
