Happy Tail: Betty

Betty came to Last Hope after living on the streets. With some love and attention from Holland, she has become an affectionate homebody who’s just a little skittish from time to time. But Betty is happiest when she’s as close to her human as possible.

Holland learned of Last Hope about eight years ago from friends and co-workers who gave positive reviews. She began looking at the available cats but she wasn’t the one to ultimately decide which one came home with her. Holland’s mother has an innate ability to know which pets would thrive with her so she chose Betty based on her mother’s recommendation. Of course, prior to adopting, Holland also talked to Last Hope about Betty’s temperament and what kind of home she would thrive in.

There was a very short adjustment period for Betty after coming home with Holland. She hid under the furniture most of the time for the first day, but by day two she was out and about learning about her cat trees and toys! She took over the household quickly and she now calls the shots. Betty is a shoulder-percher and loves to sit with Holland. Betty loves to have all the attention on her and loves pets and affection from Holland. She begins purring right away and although she’s still a little skittish from time to time, she loves her home.

Holland has a screened porch where Betty loves to watch the neighborhood. Or she’ll sit in the window and make sure everything’s going okay outside. She loves bottle caps and pens (who doesn’t?!) and sits on Holland’s shoulder while she watches TV. Betty also happens to be an excellent bug hunter!

Holland teaches third grade and her students always ask about Betty and want to see pictures of her. They love her as much as Holland does.

Cats that have lived on the streets are usually successful in home settings but it takes some time, patience, and love. Holland has provided all of those things and more so Betty is happy being inside and leaving her life on the streets behind her. We are thankful that Holland’s mother thought they would make a good pair!
