Dog of the Week: Spencer
Spencer is a nearly 10-year-old male Jack Russell Terrier. He does have some ongoing medical concerns including arthritis in his spine, a newly repaired hip joint, and some limited hearing. Spencer is a wonderful semi-senior dog with lots of love to give to a compassionate human, and he won’t mind sharing his forever home with other dogs or cats. Spencer is not a fit with younger children; he does have some lingering pain that could cause him to be snappy and he startles easily with his limited hearing. Spencer is also somewhat incontinent however, he very successfully wears a belly band and enjoys getting outside often. He can handle moderate or limited exercise, but will not be an ideal walking companion given that he lived for many years with a serious injury to his backend so he does have some lingering lameness. Spencer is happiest snuggled up in a dog bed all day, and he loves to stick to a schedule so will bark to let you know if dinner is running late! He will be most happy with someone who is mostly home during the day, although he is kennel trained, he prefers your company after all! Spencer will gladly sleep on your bed all night long, but he will need you to lift him up and down as he should no longer be jumping given the surgery he has had to repair what was a very badly damaged hip joint (surgery is known as an FHO). Spencer does take some medicine long-term to ease any arthritis pain or inflammation, and this will need to be continued.
Spencer’s adoption fee is $200 and includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with free lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.
