Dog of the Week: Copper

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hello, I’m Copper. I am around 6-7 years old and I love spending the day in front of the cool air vent napping! I grew up with kids which has made me love attention and a good scratch. I am working on building confidence and learning to play. My younger dog brother at my foster home is helping break me out of my shell and is trying to help teach me what a toy is and how to play with one. I am opening up and have started playing outside with his encouragement. During our potty breaks, I love chasing bunnies and stretching my legs before returning inside to go back to lay down. I respect short fences and have not jumped them, but I have thought about sneaking under vulnerable spots to smell my bunny friends. I am a good listener who knows my name and will let you brush my teeth, clean my paws, and do an excellent sit/stay when requested.  A home with kindness would do me best as I am afraid of being over-corrected. When meeting new people I am a shy timid girl as I am afraid to disappoint. I tend to put my head and tail down until I know you are safe but after a few minutes, I like to press up against your leg for a cuddle. Every new person I meet always describes me with the same word; “sweet.” I do not jump on guests but my foster dog brother is helping me learn how to greet guests with more enthusiasm and I am now brave enough to come up and smell new people.  I am not very interested in treats but I will do anything for a “good girl” with a neck scratch. My foster parents have been crating me at night for the first time in my life and I am doing an excellent job! I have the softest of ears you have ever felt. If you are looking for a calm dog, I’m your girl. I’m great on a car ride and am very polite when waking on a leash. I am ready to join you in a loving home.

Copper’s adoption fee is $250 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with free lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.
