Dog of the Week: Sophia

Sophia is a 7-8 year old, super cute mixture of what we guess is dachshund mixed with something that gives her a little taller legs, so maybe a mini Australian shepherd? She’s beautiful but quite shy. She will need some time to warm up to you, and she will need a safe space to go when she’s feeling overwhelmed. A crate or space under a piece of furniture will do, she isn’t too picky!   Sophia currently lives with other dogs and would do okay with another small, calm dog. Big dogs and children can be a bit intimidating to her. Once she realizes you’re not scary, she will hang out on the couch with you, happily watch tv, and enjoy getting pets and snuggles. She likes to know where you are and if you aren’t where she expects you to be, she’ll track you down in the house to find you.    She enjoys being outside in the yard, doesn’t mind the rain, and is mostly house trained. She will use pee pads in the house if they are available to her. She gets very excited for food, so you’ll have to be careful not to overfeed her because she has a tendency towards love handles (that are honestly adorable). Sophia is very sweet, and she will need someone with patience who will allow her the space and time she needs for big adjustments. If you are looking for a low maintenance dog and have a quiet home, Sophia might be the dog for you!

Sophia’s adoption fee is $250 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with free lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.
