Volunteer of the Month: Kathy Griffith

Because Kathy Griffith is extremely allergic to cats she’s unable to volunteer at the Adoption Center. But that doesn’t stop her from helping out in every way she can.

Kathy began volunteering in May of 2021 after fostering a dog after surgery for Critter Crusaders. They recommended she look into volunteering at Last Hope because we have helped out with a number of their medically needy pets. She then started fostering small dogs for Last Hope. Her dogs are small so it works out best if her fosters are small as well. She’s a pro, too. She has fostered 68 dogs with different organizations since 1999. Kathy appreciates the chance to find good homes for her foster dogs; homes that she would want them to go to. Her own dog children are Nessie, a 15-year-old long-haired chi mix, Aurora a 15-year-old Yorkie who is a foster failure, and Willow who is a Yorkie who is eight years old.

In addition to fostering, she also donates many items for our silent auction at Barks & Brew and other fundraisers. Kathy also makes dog-themed quilts and snuggle dog beds for the auctions.

In her spare time, she volunteers at a local school every week. She also makes quilts for some of the children. Kathy is currently working on her 640th quilt!

There are more ways to volunteer at Last Hope than caring for the animals at the Adoption Center and Kathy is a prime example of that. She pitches in where she can and makes a big difference in unique ways. We are lucky to have dedicated volunteers like Kathy!
