Volunteer of the Month: Joyce Sunde

Joyce was recently retired and looking for a purpose. That’s when serendipity stepped in. Her daughter was talking with a co-worker and mentioned that her mother was looking to volunteer with animals. That co-worker happened to volunteer at Last Hope and told her all about it and gave her a business card. Joyce’s daughter passed the information along to Joyce and she soon completed the adoption application and started volunteering in January of 2020.

She volunteers with the dog two to three mornings a week. Her work entails cleaning kennels, giving food and water, washing dishes, washing and folding laundry (we go through A LOT of laundry!), and playing with and socializing the dogs.

Of her volunteering, Joyce says, “The staff at LHAR are a joy to work with.  Everyone is so helpful, friendly, and dedicated to the care and comfort of all the pets at the Center.  They make me feel a part of the team, which in turn, makes me proud to have even a small part in the mission of Last Hope.”

Joyce has also opened her home to foster some dogs and became a “foster failure” and adopted two of her foster dogs.

“Thank you for giving me this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate pets who need a leg up!” No, thank YOU, Joyce for being so dedicated and dependable – we couldn’t do what we do for the animals without great volunteers like you!
