Cat of the Week: Artemis

Julia D Cat of the Week

Artemis

Artemis is a confident, older girl who still has some spunk and some love to share. She loves people and loves to get attention from her foster mom and the occasional play session, in between naps of course. Artemis and her sister Cassie were surrendered to a shelter in Eastern Iowa last year before making their way to Last Hope. Artemis would love to find a new forever home of her own with a family to love! She does great with kids and after a little time to warm up has done well with other cats.

Cat of the Week: Alfa Romeo

Julia D Cat of the Week

Alfa Romeo

Single White (and Black) Male Seeks Lifelong Companion and Playmate.  Must like cuddling and appreciate my cuteness! Meet Alfa Romeo!  This beautiful boy was rescued from a serious hoarding situation in late January, when he and 45 other cats were removed from a single home.  He may have had a rough start, but you’d never know it when you meet this friendly boy.  Alfa Romeo is sweet, full of purrs, and ready to climb into your lap as soon as he meets you.  When he is not cuddling and giving face rubs, he is energetic and playful and it is fun to watch him interact with his toys and other cats.  He is ready for a family of his own – he gets along with other cats, and would do fine in a home with children.  He will make someone a wonderful companion – please ask about him today!

If you’re interested in Alfa Romeo please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org with questions.

Barks & Brew 2016 Questions and Answers

Julia D Barks and Brew 2016

Barks & Brew is coming up so we thought we would answer some common questions about the event:

BANNER

When and where is Barks & Brew?

  • Barks & Brew will take place on August 13th from 1-9. This year’s event will be hosted by NewBo City Market. The location is perfect, offering two large grass areas, a stage, and VIP seating!  We are thrilled to be working with the NewBo City Market event team and collaborating with another non-profit where the proceeds go directly back to helping in our community which makes the event even more important.  They do a lot of good for our community and with the expected success of Barks & Brew 2016, we are hoping the secure this as our yearly location.

What can people expect to experience at the event?

  • BARKS & BREW 2016 IS PAID ENTRANCE ONLY.  Past attendees have voiced their opinion, and we want them to know we were listening.  The event will include music by ARF!, Bryce Janey, Danny Whitson, The Action Figures, and Avery Riot.  Complimentary beer and wine tasting, cash bar, bean bag tournament, photo booth, face painting, and the BIGGEST SILENT AUCTION OF THE YEAR. No doubt Barks & Brew 2016 will to be bigger, better, and more successful than ever.
  • Attendance satisfaction is most important and is what brings people back year after year.  LHAR does not receive state or federal funding and relies solely on donations.  Fundraisers like B&B help pay down our vet debt, offset overhead costs at the Adoption Center and ensure that the foster animals are taken care of.  Luckily, team BREW CREW is an incredibly talented group of people and we can guarantee that 2016 will be bigger, better, and more successful than ever!

Can I bring my dog?

  • In one word…ABSOLUTELY!

What kind of food and beverages will be available?

  • Throughout the day local breweries and wineries will set up and offer samples for attendees.  A big thank you to NewBo City Market for coordinating with us.  We are thrilled to have complimentary tasting offered by Big Grove, Iowa Brewing Company, Lion Bridge, Millstream, Backpocket, and Cedar Ridge Winery!  For those who prefer something other than beer or wine, the NewBo City Market will have vendors outside as well as inside open to the public.

How much does it cost?

  • $20 in advance gets you in the door.  In addition, the FIRST 200 to register will receive the 2016 commemorative growler!  For those who prefer to walk in, the cost is $25.

GROWLER

Who will be performing the music? What kind of music will it be?

  • Danny Whitson:  acoustic performance with country roots
  • Bryce Janey:  local blues legend
  • ARF!:  special acoustic trio playing a mix of Americana rock with local musicians Don Scott, Ryan Roling and Al Fear
  • The Action Figures:  a fun group with a mix of modern and classic rock
  • Avery Riot: high energy female fronted rock band playing music from the 90s to present day.

How many people do you expect?

  • We are expecting 1,000 attendees this year. The more the better!

What if it rains?

  • The event is rain or shine. We have two very large tents that will span most of the grassy area.

What kind of items will be available for purchase?

  • Ale for Tail was an overwhelming success last year and we have decided to keep the tag line.  We will have t-shirts and sweatshirts available for purchase.

How do I sign-up to attend?

  • Stop by our website www.AdoptHope.org.  The link is on the home page and you will also find information about sponsorship and event details.

What will the money raised from Barks & Brew be used for?

  • To pay off much needed veterinarian debt, assist in the Capital Campaign and the purchase of the Adoption Center.

Dog of the Week: Tonka

Julia D Dog of the Week

Tonka

Tonka is a playful, active guy who is looking for a family to love him. He loves people and is affectionate to a fault. If you have a high energy dog that needs someone to wrestle with – Tonka could be the one! He’s a family friendly crumb catcher, who would be great with little ones, but beware of fly-bys as this boy can jump! He gets along well with other dogs as long as he is carefully introduced to them, but may not be suitable for smaller breeds as he’s really not aware of how big he is. He is not fond of cats, and will kindly alert you to any furry intruders in your yard. A happy go lucky clown like Tonka will be sure to brighten your home!

If you’re interested in Tonka please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Kaia

Julia D Dog of the Week

Kaia

Hi, my name is Kaia, and I came all the way from California.  While the west coast has all the sunshine,  I wanted to see how the Midwest farmers’ daughters lived.  All the dog volunteers at Last Hope say I am the sweetest little girl, I love to snuggle, and give tons of kisses.  I am a very strong girl and need someone equally as strong.  I do not do good with other animals, so I need to go to a furever home that does not have other pets.  I also need a home that has a privacy fence in case the neighbors have pets.  So if you always wished they all could be  California girls and wanted one of your own, then I am your girl.

If you’re interested in Kaia please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Shay Carson

Julia D Dog of the Week

Shay

My  name is Shay and I’m a 6 year old pit mix. I love to sleep all day and all night, but hate the idea of sleeping in a kennel. My foster parents said I have to sleep in a kennel due to I may have an accident. I get along with slower older dogs, things that move fast I just want to chase and bite. I find small dogs, cats, and other small animal something that I could chew on and shouldn’t be homed with. I do voice my opinion when seeing things I would like to chase and eat. I love to go on walks and meet new humans.I walk pretty good on a leash too. I love people of all ages. My foster parents tell me I’m a really good dog, which I return the favor by licking faces when they are sleeping.

If you’re interested in Shay please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.
