Happy Tail: Linus and Temperance

Julia D Happy Tails

Linus and Temperance hit the jackpot with their forever home. Their adoptive mom decided to take home both of the kitties and they are loving life in their new home!

Linus is playful – very playful. He “attacks” his sister at least a couple times a day to try to rile her up into a good play session. His favorite thing is water. Whenever a faucet is turned on, he’s there to watch the water. His other favorite things are his “mousies” which are toy mice that he loves to play with. Sometimes he’ll even bring it to his mom for a couple rounds of fetch! Alex says, “He is most lovey in the middle of the night. He wakes me up once a night usually just to remind me, right in my face with massive purrs, how much he loves me.” How sweet!

Temperance is a little more polite and respectful than her brother. She purrs whenever she is touched. Her favorite things are eating (sometimes too fast!) and getting love and attention from her humans. According to Alex, “Temperance is the one who will usually join me first in bed at night, and is more careful not to wake me than Linus. Often they each end up planted around my head. Sometimes we fall asleep with one of each of their paws on my palm and that’s the sweetest feeling.”

It sounds like Linus and Temperance found the perfect forever home!

Cat of the Week: Mila Orange

Julia D Cat of the Week

Mila is a beautiful orange tabby that’s had a rough life.  She will need someone with lots of love and patience.  She loves to be petted and purrs instantly.  She prefers not to be held or picked up.  She’s a playful kitty that may be playing one minute and growling at her toy the next.  She would also prefer to be your only kitty and needs time to learn how to be part of a home filled with love.  She has the loudest meow and will let you know if you’re not doing something she enjoys. Come meet Mila and find out if you’re a purr-fect match.

Cat of the Week: Jackson

Julia D Cat of the Week

Jackson came to LHAR from a hoarding situation in CR, along with about 30 other kitties. He was quite scared when he first came in, but when moved to his foster home, within a couple of days he was seeking attention!  He is a LAP KITTY and LOVES to snuggle on your lap, nuzzle your face, give head bumps – and drools while he is in absolute heaven with the attention he is getting! (His foster mom affectionately calls him ‘Mr. Jackson Drooler’).  He has a love for CATNIP toys and plays with toys like he is still a kitten!  He uses his litter box faithfully, but will need a box with HIGH sides; if not, he might accidentally overshoot the sides even though he is inside his litter box. He’s a very sweet boy who will do best if kept in a confined area when you first take him home so he gets used to all the sights, sounds and smells in his new environment – which shouldn’t take him very long! He gets along with other kitties, too, and he’d probably love to have a companion!  As of January 2017, we believe he is about 3 years old.  This gorgeous boy has the most beautiful Brown Marbled Tabby markings – with a big BULLSEYE pattern on both of his sides, and several other symmetrical markings elsewhere which are really, really cool!

UPDATE 5/4/17…  Jackson is such a sweetheart!  He is a big goofy boy who now resides with two older kittens, (Rusty and Tig, also available for adoption) and they are getting along fabulously!  He did not even hiss once when being introduced to them, and acted like they were already family when they were put together!  He is gentle and purrs all the time – he just loves people!  He even comes when you call him!  He is so deserving of a loving home where he will be the love of someone’s life… How about yours?

Dog of the Week: Shay Carson

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hi, I am Shay and I am about 9 years old. You might call me a senior but that just means I am past my crazy puppy years!   I am a sweet girl and I have been searching for my perfect family for about a year now. I am kind of a princess and really want all the attention to myself, so I would like to be the only pet in your house.  I love to go on walks and meet new people. I walk pretty good on a leash, too. I love people of all ages.  Because of my age I am starting to have a little trouble seeing and hearing but it doesn’t stop me from giving great kisses! Please come meet me, I have lots of love to give you!

Volunteer of the Month: Connie Menting

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month for June, Connie Menting! Let’s learn a little bit about how Connie contributes to Last Hope…

Connie volunteers as a foster and has been doing so for just over four years. She takes in smaller dogs and dogs that need a little extra love like dogs from puppy mills, non-house trained, abused, biters, etc. She works with them to get them used to living in a home and gives them the love they need and deserve. She helps them trust people again and gets them ready for their forever homes.

She has fostered many dogs and helped 48 of them find their perfect forever families. Connie takes her time to find the right homes for the dogs she fosters.

About Last Hope she says, “I like volunteering by fostering for LHAR due to their support system.  Having foster leads, intake people, excellent medical advise, adoption event coordinators, and a dog trainer who volunteers to give classes to fosters and newly adopted dogs.  Let’s not forget the groomers who donate their skills to make them look like a million dollars.    It takes a village, LHAR, to get one dog ready for their new forever home.  I am proud and honored to be part of that team.”

Thank you, Connie, for giving that extra love that these dogs need! You’ve truly made a difference in the lives of many animals.

Cat of the Week: Cassie

Julia D Cat of the Week

Cassie is a petite, senior girl. She’s currently living at Cedar Run Pet Boarding and Daycare. She’s a sweet girl who enjoys sunning herself in the windows and relaxing in her kitty bed. She does well with the other kitties that come and go- she’s had several Last Hope roommates over the past few months. She would do great with another kitty friend as long as they’re not too much of a bully.

If you’re interested in Cassie, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Roxie

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hey Roxie here!  I am just 10 months old and am looking for a fun, active family to call my own! I love to play and the volunteers say I am the ‘class clown’! (I don’t know what that means but I love to play with my human friends!) I am okay with cats and love to play with other dogs! I would love to have a fenced yard and another dog to play with in my new home.  I am pretty big and could be a little jumpy for small kids. If you are looking for a fun, goofy furfriend, I’m your girl! I am wishing for a family that can help me learn lots of new things too! If you think you are that special family submit an application for me!

If you’re interested in Roxie, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Happy Tail: Gibby

Julia D Happy Tails

Gibby, formerly Gimpy, was adopted by Mike and Alyssa and he is fitting into their family really well. Gibby is blind in one eye but that didn’t cause the adopters any hesitation – they already had a Doberman that is blind in one eye so they thought he would fit in great. And he has!

They found Gibby on our website and quickly began the process of adopting him. Once he was in the home, there was an adjustment period for a couple weeks. Their dog had the run of the house by himself for over eight years, but the two dogs soon worked out their pecking order and all was well.

Gibby is a very intelligent dog and knows all the basic commands. He even waits patiently for his food and for him to be told it’s okay to eat. He loves to run in their large backyard and also just lay in the grass outside. Gibby likes to go for walks and loves treats!

Mike says he has never adopted a grown dog before; he always raised them from puppies. He says, “But this guy taught me that there are great full-grown dogs out there who desperately need a home! I would adopt an adult dog again in a heartbeat!”

We’re so glad Gibby found such a great home and is fitting in so well! And we’re glad an adult dog was given a chance to show how much love he still had to give. Happy life, Gibby!
