Dog of the Week: Ollie

Julia D Dog of the Week

Ollie is a very special dog with a very sad background in search of a loving forever family. He was hit by a truck and left for dead on the side of the road, his spine was fractured from the blow.  Through the kindness of strangers, Ollie was rescued and received the medical attention he so desperately needed.  His spine has healed, although he walks with a limp, he is learning to run and play and just be a happy dog again!  Ollie is medically recovered and in need of a loving home that can offer him no stairs – those are still tricky! Ollie is also best suited for a home with older children as he can experience some sensitivity on his underside and wouldn’t want to scare a small child if he felt a little pain.

Ollie is in foster care and loves to run and play. His foster home has put him on some very inexpensive over the counter arthritis supplement for humans. He is responding remarkably. He will always have a little limp, which is pronounced when he is tired. He has taken it on himself to practice the three steps in the back yard to get a better vantage point to play, so a few steps with lots of patience would work out. He travels fine, but, does not like being picked up so a ramp would help him. He likes kids and everyone, and trips to Petco are great fun. He is very affectionate and gives kisses and head buts for attention. He is a little protective of his food and gets fed in his crate. He insists on 2 walks a day, just a few blocks, but, man does he love those walks. Bunnies beware here comes Ollie.

Cat of the Week: Luke

Julia D Cat of the Week

Luke was live trapped in a neighborhood where animal rescuers were looking for three abandoned kittens. We attempted to release him the next day, thinking he was someone’s pet, and he would not go. He just sat in the back of the kennel and cried. Searches for a potential owner were unsuccessful.  He has been a bit scared since being rescued which is understandable with what he’s been through lately, but we’re hoping this handsome boy will soon realize his new life has just begun! Won’t you give this sweet boy a chance to win your heart?

Dog of the Week: Roxie

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hey, Roxie here!  I am just 10 months old and am looking for a fun, active family to call my own! I love to play and the volunteers say I am the ‘class clown’! (I don’t know what that means but I love to play with my human friends!) I am okay with cats and love to play with other dogs! I would love to have a fenced yard and another dog to play with in my new home.  I am pretty big and could be a little jumpy for small kids. If you are looking for a fun, goofy furfriend, I’m your girl! I am wishing for a family that can help me learn lots of new things too! If you think you are that special family submit an application for me!

If you’re interested in Roxie please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Ace

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hi, I’m Ace! I am a 2 yr old very energetic boy! I love my people and want to be with them all the time.  I am house trained too.  I would love an active family that takes me with them and gives me lots of exercise.

I also dream of a fenced yard I can run and run in! I am just learning some of my commands so if you can take me to classes I can learn even more! I should be with kids that are older than 10 so I don’t knock anyone over with all my energy!

If you’re interested in Ace, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Rescue Ride Recap

Julia D Rescue Ride 2017

The totals are in for our 1st Annual Rescue Ride and we raised $7,325.00 from the ride, sponsors, shirts sales, 50/50 raffle, and silent auction items. Our expenses were $65.00.
We still have shirts for sale if you would like one.
Now a word from the organizer:
I want to personally thank  Amy Shaull for coordinating this ride and everything else she did, Jamie Schulte for getting some amazing silent auction items, and Amanda Rushton for helping with the fliers and getting t-shirts. Great job!  Thank you to our sponsors: Graceland Lawn Care, Rock Shop, Cedar Run, Hills Bank, Woodruff Construction, Casa Tequila Grill, Iowa Humane Alliance, and JPM Enterprises.  I want to thank our great volunteers who came out to help with everything during our ride. This was a huge task for all involved and it came together and went well. We had a safe ride and thank you to pastor Tom for coming and sending our riders off with a prayer.  We have some of the greatest volunteers a person could ask for so kudos to you all.  I greatly appreciate all you do for Last Hope and the animals in our care.  This was our first ride and it will grow every year.
Thank you all so much for making a thought a reality.
A special thank you to Williamsburg Fire Department, Williamsburg Police Department, Tiffin Fire Department, Sandy with JCAS for teaching CPR on animals, and the Iowa State Patrol.
Thank You,
Board of Directors of Last Hope

Cat of the Week: Charlie

Julia D Cat of the Week

My name is Charlie and I was found as a stray by the Pipac Center in Cedar Falls. I hung out there for about a week until my foster mom could get me to her house. I am approximately 2 1/2 to 3 years old. I am a neutered male with all claws. My testing shows I am Feline Leukemia and FIV negative and up to date on shots. Microchipped as well. My foster mom says I am so sweet. I love head scratches and rubbing on your hand. I am litter trained. I play with the other cats in the foster home (there are kittens in the house as well). I run and play with the female cat a lot. I don’t even mind the 3 little dogs in the house. I enjoy a cat bed to lay on and I’m super quiet unless I’m scared or hungry. I love love love to eat!!! I don’t get on the counters because my foster mom doesn’t allow that kind of stuff but I’m ok with that. I’m happy to be in a home where someone loves me and takes care of me.

Foster mom notes: Charlie is so very sweet, calm, and pretty lazy. He is currently on cat food from Science Diet indoor cat. He is pretty timid at first and needs time to get to know you and the routine but he’s so very loving. He’s good with pets and can be picked up but he will squirm to get down after a short period. He loves other animals. He is very accepting and adjusts so well to new environments. He will make a very good companion to anyone.

If you’re interested in Charlie, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Josephine

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hello I am Josephine! But everyone calls me Josie. If you are looking for a fun time, I am your girl! I love to play with my people and toys too! I like other dogs if I am properly introduced, but they need to be able to handle my energy so a younger dog my size would be best.  I would love a fenced yard to run and run! I am still learning my social manners so if you could take me to school that would be so awesome! If you are up for lots of fun, go put an application in for me!

If you’re interested in jolly Josephine, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

October Happy Tail: Jackson

Julia D Happy Tails

 Meow, I’m Jackson,

Last Hope rescued me back in January 2017 from an awful situation. I’m so glad they did because I was so scared.

Barb from LHAR fostered me.  I don’t understand what that means but I know I was okay. Then, one day she took me to a cat ADOPTION party.  I catnapped there because that’s what I do.  Next they took me into a quiet room were I met this lady named Julli.  She hugged me, cried happy tears. SHE WAS EXCITED!

I also met Julli’s husband, John.  They took me to a place they call “HOME.”  Home has clean water (I like it from a faucet), yummy food, fish in a tank, toys, and these larger animals, called grandchildren.  They are loud, fun, and silly just like me.  I enjoy running out from under the bed to scare them.

I love my new family and they love me!  My life is purr-fect!

Hugs,

Jackson, Julli and John

Volunteers of the Month: Val and Andy Graves

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

After learning about Last Hope at a holiday event, Val and Andy attended a new volunteer orientation and started volunteering in February of 2016.

They volunteer as dog leads at the Adoption Center and work an average of three to four shifts a week. They feed, give medication, provide exercise and play time, clean, and make sure each dog gets plenty of love and attention.

Val and Andy also volunteer as event leads. They help organize events like Tour for Life, the adult prom, holiday parades, and Theisen’s events.

When asked why they like volunteering at Last Hope they said, “We love volunteering for Last Hope because not only does it make a difference in the lives of the dogs but it makes a difference in our lives too. There’s nothing better than the love of a rescue dog and to be a part of so many of their transformations is such a wonderful feeling. We share the same passion with so many of the other volunteers it feels like a second family; without their dedication none of this would be possible.”

Thank you, Val and Andy, for your dedication and all your hard work!

Cat of the Week: Gerald

Julia D Cat of the Week

Meet Jerry…If you like feisty kitties, he’s your man! This sweet boy just wants your love and attention.  He is an absolute snuggler and loves to play, especially with the dogs in his foster home.  Jerry is FIV+, but it doesn’t slow him down and he will still have a long and happy life with the proper care but will most likely need to be the only kitty in his new home. He is currently living with Wally – our other FIV+ kitty. If you’re looking for an awesome pair of kitties check these guys out!  With Jerry’s feisty nature we do believe he would do best in a home with no small children.

If you’re interested in awesome Gerald, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.
