Happy Tail: Baxter

Julia D Happy Tails

Natalie and Jerry adopted Baxter from Last Hope after searching online for a local rescue. They were looking for a small senior dog to fit into their family of senior furbabies. They also wanted to adopt a senior pet because they know that seniors have a harder time getting adopted.

They appreciated the thorough application process because they acknowledge that doing reference checks and a home visit is necessary to make sure the right pet is going to the right home. The entire process took less than a week and they say it was worth the short wait!

Natalie and Jerry figured that he had the name Baxter for his whole life so they didn’t want to change it, but they did give him the middle name, Banjo.

Baxter settled into their home quickly. The foster mom suggested having him sleep in a crate until he and their other dog got fully acquainted. Well, that lasted one night and then Baxter was up on the bed and has been there ever since – sleeping on a pillow!

Baxter loves to chase squirrels and chipmunks with their other dog, Malachi. He also likes toys and hides them under the bed. He loves going for walks but his favorite pastime is sleeping next to his family and that’s their favorite thing, too.

After they adopted Baxter they learned that he was born on December 10, 2005. The dog they lost to cancer last summer, Samson, was born on December 9, 2005. They took that as a sign that Baxter belonged with them. They say, “We hope more people will consider adopting seniors. They are not as energetic as puppies and they offer a ton of love!”

Natalie and Jerry, we’re so happy that you gave Baxter such a great life with you and your other furbabies. Thank you for opening your hearts to a senior dog!

Dog of the Week: A.Chance

Julia D Dog of the Week

Last Hope took a chance on me…and I’m so very glad they did! My name now is A.Chance and I’m a sweetheart for being such a big guy. I’m strong and tough on the outside, but full of love and cuddles on the inside. I’d really love a home where I can be your main man; other dogs are okay but I do best as a single dog. I love people of all ages, but again, I’m a big guy so I think kids who are older would be best for me  Won’t you take a chance on me, too?

A.Chance’s adoption fee is $250 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a free obedience class. If you’re interested in this great guy, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cat of the Week: Freya

Meet Freya, the sweetest sass monster there is. This precious girl is her foster mom’s shadow. You can find her on the couch watching Netflix and in bed ready for a sleepover with you. She does though seem to want all the attention to herself so a home with no other animals or maybe another submissive cat friend. That’s why we call her the sass monster because she will tell the other pets whose turn for attention it is. This lazy girl is ready for you to come meet and give your Netflix password to her! So next time Netflix ask if you’re still watching take that moment to fill out an application to come take me home!

Freya’s adoption fee is $85 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip. If you’d like to add this sassy lady to your family, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Damon

Julia D Dog of the Week

Meet Damon. He is an 11 year old Husky looking for his forever home. Don’t let his age fool you…..he still acts like a young pup a lot of the time. Other than some joint sensitivity, he is in great health and loves to go for walks. He can also be a big couch potato if that’s what you choose to do for the day.  Damon knows sit, lay down, shake and can even give high fives. His best talent though is his singing. Have you ever heard a Husky sing? It’s entertaining and will make you smile. Damon does great with people but will need to be the only dog. We are looking for a dog-savvy person that is familiar with his breed and will have time to spend with him. Damon is not destructive and can be left loose when his people are gone. He might sleep with you if he decides that he needs to cuddle. To keep Damon looking so handsome, he will need regular grooming.

Damon’s adoption fee is $200 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a free obedience class. If you’re interested in handsome Damon, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cat of the Week: Adam

Julia D Cat of the Week

Hey, I’m Adam. I was a stray cat picked up at a Casey’s in Hills, Iowa. Not much else is known about my background, unfortunately, just that I’ve been roaming the streets for a while now. I’m enjoying the attention I get from everyone and especially the sweet petting! I can be a bit love bitey, but I’m not aggressive at all, I just am new to people and am still trying to figure this out. The nice volunteer who was taking care of me chose not to give me attention and ignore me when I would nibble on her as a way to stop the behavior. I suppose that may work but I just get so excited, I don’t mean anything wrong by it, I’m just so enthusiastic when I get lovins. I’m sweet, active, and a talker too.

Adam’s adoption fee is $85 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip. If you’re interested in this great guy, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Coco

Julia D Dog of the Week

Coco is a 6-year-old boxer looking for her forever family. She does great with kids and has lots of kisses and love to share. Coco knows how to sit and is eager to learn new tricks. She minds her manners and doesn’t jump up on her humans. She is kennel trained and housebroke and really loves comfy beds and cuddling. Coco prefers to be the only dog of the family. She is not one that will be up for dog parks, camping, or dog events – more of a stay at home kind of girl.  Coco tends to pull on her leash and can make a big deal out of other dogs passing by. She has been to a trainer and learned a lot but will need her forever family to keep working with her so she can be the best dog she can be.

Coco’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on shots, a microchip, and a free obedience class. If you’re interested in beautiful Coco, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Kaiya

Julia D Dog of the Week

Kaiya is a beautiful young pitbull terrier mix. She was found by a patrolman in Missouri. At the time, she had an infection in her eye and her eye needed to be removed to prevent further damage. She has made an excellent recovery and gets around without any problems or fearfulness. The shelter that she was at became too full, so Kaiya is now a Last Hope dog.   Kaiya has been learning potty training and leash manners very well. She knows “sit” and “kennel” and is eager to learn more (especially for treats)! Kaiya has loved all people she has met and gets along well with her “big brother.” She does get pretty excited whenever she sees other animals and will chase cats. Kaiya has a lot of puppy energy and will do well in a home where she has space to play and people and/or dog friends to play with. Kaiya will thrive with someone to teach her how to curb her enthusiasm and will repay in limitless cuddles.

Kaiya’s adoption fee is $300 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a free obedience class. If you’re interested in Kaiya, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

June 2018 Volunteer of the Month: Melinda Kadera

Julia D Uncategorized

Our Volunteer of the Month for June 2018 is hard-working Melinda Kadera!

Melinda has volunteered for Last Hope since 2013 when she heard about us through her sister. When she first started she did a lot of transports of dogs coming from other states to Last Hope. She also helped clean kennels in Solon, back before the Adoption Center was purchased.

When she purchased a house she was excited to start fostering dogs and has fostered five since 2015. Her first foster dog, Diamond, stayed with her for about two years and she was so happy and excited to help her find her forever home. Melinda also helps get monetary contributions from family, friends, and her workplace.

Dog of the Week: Skeeter

Julia D Dog of the Week

My name’s Skeeter and I’m a good ol’ hound dog with lots of love to give!  I’m around two years old, and I love to be outside and enjoy the fresh air in true hound dog style.  I am looking for a forever home that is active and will give me lots of new experiences.  I’m hoping for someone who will take me on lots of walks and teach me new tricks, too! I like other dogs, but I’m not a big fan of cats…they seem fun to chase anyway! Kids are great, but only if they like a big lovable guy like me.

Skeeter’s adoption fee is $250 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a free obedience class. If you’re interested in Skeeter, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cats of the Week: Blackie and Panther

Julia D Cat of the Week

Blackie has the cutest and most inquisitive face! She loves to roll over belly-up and knead her paws in the air, especially in a ray of sunshine. She loves to be petted and goes crazy for catnip. She’s very playful and will be seen often with a play mouse in her mouth.  Blackie is very timid and shy yet is very gentle and lets you pick her up without any protest. She has one of the loudest purrs we’ve heard. She is very good with other cats and children but would need an adjustment period to rambunctious children. Loud noises tend to make her hide.

Panther has the softest and the silkiest fur and loves to have it petted and groomed. If you’re looking for a cat who is constantly in the same room as you, this is your girl! She will follow you around everywhere, including curling up by your feet to keep you warm at night. She loves to watch the birds out the window and enjoys stalking ladybugs in the hot sun on the window. She doesn’t protest being picked up and would rather sit next to you verses on your lap. Panther is very playful and is constantly moving her toys in different areas of her foster mom’s house.

If you’re interested in these great cats, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.
