Cats of the Week: Breeze, Sunny, and Rain

Julia D Cat of the Week

Breeze has always been the cat in the house to take care of everyone else first. He will do fine as an only cat in the house but also loves cats of all ages. He is great with kids and sleeps with a 9-year-old every night and loves all of her friends when they visit. He is very curious still and is very loyal. He will be a great addition to any home!

Sunny is the petite princess kitty of the home. She struts her stuff but is so gentle. Sunny loves kids and cats of all ages. She loves having other cats around to snuggle with as she naps throughout the day. She also loves playing with toys as she is still very much a kitten.

Rain has been the warrior of the group and the most curious. He is the first to run up to you and make you pay attention to him in the morning. He puts his head right on your chin for some love. He will do great with kids, other cats, and alone. Please consider him as a companion.

All three cats are close to one year old.

The adoption fee for each kitty is $100 which includes spay/neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip with lifetime registration.

Cats of the Week: Neko and Nigel

Julia D Cat of the Week

Don’t be fooled by this button-nosed cat, Neko is up for all adventures!  He enjoys looking out the window and trying to get everyone to notice him.  He’s a bit scared to be picked up and held. He will sit on the floor and flip over to have his belly rubbed and is the first to jump on your lap!

Nigel loves to play and purr.  He enjoys chasing pretend mice.  He’s not a big fan of being held and picked up but loves his chin and ears scratched and would be a great lap cat after his playtime is over.

Neko and Nigel are brothers and very bonded with each other.  Neko is black with some white features and Nigel is white with some black features. Nigel and Neko spend a lot of time with each other and cuddle with each other when sleeping. They are both very affectionate cats and will make great additions to your family! We would like to see these two go to their forever home together.

Dog of the Week: Duffy

Julia D Dog of the Week

Duffy is a 10-year-old male Maltese who came to Last Hope Animal Rescue after living his entire life in a puppy mill. While we do not know the exact conditions of the puppy mill, Duffy’s physical condition indicated that he was poorly cared for. When he arrived in our care, he had ear infections in both ears, matted hair, overgrown nails, and horrible teeth. After a groom, dental cleaning, and ear medication, his physical comfort improved greatly, so we then focused on his emotional recovery from years of neglect.

Initially, Duffy did not know how to be a dog and was terrified of people. At his foster home, he only felt safe when in his crate, only leaving to potty. Outside of his crate, he would hide behind the resident dog and flee any approaching human. He was in a constant state of panic around people and would never relax in their presence; if someone even touched him, every muscle in his body would tense up. Duffy has made great strides in adjusting to home life and people. He is now using a dog bed instead of a crate and will walk throughout the house on his own. He enjoys exploring the yard, following the resident dog around, and collecting socks from the floor to bring back to his bed. He has a great nose for sniffing out goodies in the yard or house and loves treats. Toys and play are just beginning to interest him too.

Duffy is now comfortable in the presence of familiar people, will approach people for treats, and interact with cats and new dogs. Duffy will likely continue to make progress, but he will probably never be completely at ease with people. To help him be comfortable and continue learning how to be a dog, he will need to be in a home with at least one other confident dog. He does not like being handled or picked up, so will need to have a calm household, with adults who are patient and respectful of his needs. Since he prefers not to go on leashed walks, a fenced in back yard is a must. He pees and poops outside for the most part, but does have accidents in the house if left outside of his crate for a long period of time. He will need an observant owner who can recognize the signs that he needs to go outside.

Duffy’s adoption fee is $200 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Cat of the Week: Leo

Julia D Cat of the Week

Hi there! I’m Leo. These nice people at Last Hope took me in when I had nowhere else to go. They say I like to talk a lot but I just have a lot to share! I love to tell my story, even though they say they can’t understand me. I would love a home to call my own. I don’t even mind other cats, dogs, or even kids. Kids are actually pretty cool if you ask me.

Leo’s adoption fee is $85 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip with lifetime registration.

Dog of the Week: Rocket

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hi, I am Rocket! My friends call me Rocket Man because I love to run around and play with toys. I like most other dogs and would love to have a confident dog in my new home to help me with my confidence. If you are looking for a fun loving, funny guy to make you laugh I am your guy!  I am good around cats too.  I can be a little nervous and startle easily around kids so I should not have kids in my new home.  I walk a little funny on my back legs, but I was born that way and it really doesn’t slow me down but it does cause some incontinence.  A physical fenced in yard is required. Rocket is looking for that special family that can help him build his confidence and understand his special needs.

Rocket’s adoption fee is $250 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Cat of the Week: Laffie

Julia D Cat of the Week

My name is Laffie. I am a beautiful torti. I was brought into Last Hope fearful but all I need is some TLC and you will see the softer side to me. I’m unique, as I’m a polydactyl kitty which means I was born with an extra toe on all of my paws. I’m a quiet girl and love to lounge around and relax. I’d love a laid back home- I wouldn’t mind another kitty or a dog as long as they don’t pick on me.

Laffie’s adoption fee is $85 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip with lifetime registration.

Happy Tail: Vito

Julia D Happy Tails

Jen and her family adopted Vito and here is their story in her own words:

After spending a few years away from being a foster for a local rescue, my youngest daughter wanted to get involved again. She had a flier for Pups in the Park through Last Hope so we signed up to volunteer…..only to volunteer. Then one thing led to another and I’m working intake and a little dog convinced me I needed to foster her so I was back in and haven’t stopped yet.

I was proud of being one of the few that never foster failed (adopted my foster). We’ve fostered quite a few and every single one pulled on my heart strings but they all found their perfect forever homes so it made it easy. Then I got a call about a 6-year-old pug…..I have a thing for pugs so I should’ve known then that I didn’t stand a chance! There was a death in his previous family and he needed a new home. I walked through the doors of Last Hope’s adoption center and there was Vito. There aren’t words for the instant connection I felt with this little guy! He looked at me like I was his whole world. He still looks at me like that today.

We knew right away he was a part of our family so I filled out the adoption application. Even though I’m a foster home, it was the best feeling when I finally got the contract and they said I could keep him forever! It’s been a long road with him. We found out after adoption that he had cancer and luckily the vet was able to remove all of it with strong indications it will NOT be back. He also has osteoarthritis in one of his back legs and severe collapsing trachea. We have found different alternative therapies to keep him healthy and I can say that today he is healthier than ever!

Vito kept his name because it fit him. He’s like a sassy little Italian that thinks the world should revolve around him. He has his quirks though. Like his foot fetish. Strange, I know but as soon as you sit down he walks over and sits on your foot so you can rub his chest with it. He likes to bark at his human sister, Emma, early in the morning after I leave for work to make her get out of bed and lift him up. The funny part is that as soon as she gets out of bed, he runs up the steps and steals her pillows! The two of them always seem to argue with each other! He loves to crawl in bed with his other human sister, Leah, and walk all the way up her body, give her kisses then try to steal her pillow. They don’t argue as much, thank goodness.

Sampson is Vito’s fur brother. While they don’t really play together, they do like to hang out next to each other and have grown attached to each other. He also has a fur niece Freya, a 70-pound lab mix that is his favorite playmate. Goofy boy always tries to bite her armpits……I told you he was quirky! Vito instigates all the play sessions, usually right before bed. Vito sits on the bed barking at Freya and Jessie, one of our foster girls, until they play with him. Then they just get wild! Sometimes it’s incredibly hard to get them to stop.

I appreciate all that Last Hope does to rescue animals every day. I’m lucky to be part of this group and help these sweet animals find their forever homes. Adopt don’t shop. You might end up with a Vito of your own.

Thank you, Jen and family, for giving Vito such a great forever home!

Dog of the Week: Jesse

Julia D Dog of the Week

My name is Jesse, I’m a young red heeler mix. I’m looking for my forever family, I really love to play with other dogs so I’m hoping to find a family that has another confident and playful dog near my size! I know a few great tricks like sit and shake and I have graduated from a basic obedience class with flying colors! Being the super smart heeler girl that I am, I bet we can learn lots more cool tricks together! I need an active family, someone that understands that even though I’ll enjoy our fenced in back yard I need to go for walks and have fun outings to be a happy working breed dog. I like kids but I want a home with older kids, please. I’m a little too interested in cats so it’s probably best that I stick to living with just dogs.

Jesse’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you are interested in this beautiful and smart girl, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Little Billy

Julia D Dog of the Week

Meet Little Billy! But don’t be fooled by his name. There is nothing little about this cutie! From his personality to his love of attention from his canine and human friends, Billy is big in every way!  He enjoys playing with dogs his size or bigger and kids of any age. He loves his toys and adores being petted. Billy prefers adult dogs over puppies but will tolerate puppies. We’ve never introduced him to a cat, so a careful introduction would be needed if cats live in a potential adoptive home. He’s making progress on crate training and knows sit, stay, and shake. Billy would make a fun addition to almost any family!

Little Billy’s adoption fee is $250 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you’re interested in this great guy, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Volunteer of the Month: Alex Magby

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Alex began volunteering at Last Hope in February of 2015 after she saw a post on Facebook about a cat hoarding case we helped with. Since then she has fostered many cats and one dog. She isn’t afraid to take on the tougher cases: pregnant cats and litters of kittens, both of which can be handfuls. She also helps with home visits, events, and pretty much anything we ask of her.

She says she loves volunteering at Last Hope because of the friendships she’s made, especially the one with Crystal (Cat Coordinator). Alex appreciates that Crystal treats her as a friend rather than just a person who volunteers.

Alex likes the adoption process and says, “I love the process of adoption from Last Hope and how involved I am with my fosters’ adoptions; it makes me feel better knowing the adopters. Especially for the babies I raise or the ones that came to me sick or neglected.”

Alex is an integral part of our team and we are thankful she chooses to spend some of her free time helping us out!
