Dog of the Week: Zelda

Julia D Dog of the Week

My name is Zelda, and I’m looking for my forever family!  I am a young female German Shepherd mix, I know basic commands like “sit” and few fun ones like “left” and “right,” but I would love to meet a new family that has dog experience and can work with me on learning even more commands.  I am looking for a family with a fenced yard, I don’t mind older kids (12 years and older) and I think I might be okay with one other dog, but I do like to be the dog in charge and get all the attention  – haha.  I’m not a big fan of riding in the car so crating me is how I prefer to travel, so my new family should really like to go for walks to help me get some exercise.

Zelda’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Cats of the Week: Max and Oliver

Julia D Cat of the Week

Max is a sweet boy who is super gentle and loves affection, especially belly rubs.  He is still a young kitty and likes toys and enjoys playing and hanging out with his brother, Oliver.  His favorite pastime is watching birdies and basking in an open window.

Oliver is a happy-go-lucky boy who loves everything.  He gives awesome hugs and likes to snuggle, but also absolutely loves his brother Max.  He is one of those cats that just makes you happy to be around and will make you fall in love with him in an instant.  He is very talkative and for him, everything is a toy.

We would love to find a home where Oliver and Max could stay together and believe they would do best in a home without other kitties.

If you’re interested in adopting these two handsome boys, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Dog of the Week: Louis

Julia D Dog of the Week

Louis is going to be THAT dog that just captures your heart! Louis came to Last Hope from some pretty horrible conditions, he is a 12-year-old DoxiePoo. Louis has had to be introduced to being loved and seems to be taking to it very well. He does very well with other dogs in the home, he likes to follow and do as they do. He has also been around cats and does very well with them, too. He will be best suited in a home with another companion animal.

Louis does not seek out affection from people, but he will gladly snuggle up in a chair if you pick him up or sleep soundly through the night if you place him on your bed. He is good to go outside and explore but will require a fenced in yard as he has no recall. Louis is not potty trained but does well wearing a belly band.  Due to his age, he has been started on Proin to control incontinence and seems to respond well. Louis does not have many teeth left, but he does great eating soft food and chewy treats. He is such a sweet dog, and whoever gets to call this dog theirs will fall in love with this sweet boy.

Louis’ adoption fee is $200 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you think you can provide a great home for Louis, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cat of the Week: Monkey

Julia D Cat of the Week

Monkey is an all black female kitty who was rescued from a feral colony in Iowa City. She has been with us for over a year. She can be a little timid at first, but she has really come out of her shell. She would probably do best in a quieter home, but she does get along with the other cats in her room at our adoption center. Once she realizes humans aren’t bad, she’s definitely up for a good ear and belly rub!

Monkey’s adoption fee is $100 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip with lifetime registration.

Dog of the Week: Charley

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hi! My name is Charley Grace, but you can call me Charley. I’m only about 11 months old but have had a rough puppyhood. I was a “backyard dog” during my formative months so I’m wary of humans and scared of a lot of things. I’m slowly learning from my foster family that people are kind; I’m even starting to occasionally sneak up for a pat on the head and a scratch behind the ears. I’m great with other dogs, and I don’t even mind the housecats. I think older kids would be okay; younger ones might be a little too noisy for me. Loud sounds tend to frighten me.

My foster mom says my adoptive family must have dogs for me to play with to give me confidence and teach me how to be a dog. A fenced-in yard is also a must so I can feel safe. You should see me play with Legacy (another awesome dog available for adoption from Last Hope!). My foster mom says that I’m a completely different dog when we play together. We don’t live far from each other, so our foster moms let us get together for playdates sometimes. It’s so much fun!  I’m still learning how to live indoors, so my new family should be patient while I keep learning that I need to potty outside. I do love my crate and I never make a mess in there.

Will someone please give me a chance? I know that I’m not a “typical” dog, but I’m trying so hard to be! Last Hope even offers a free obedience course with my adoption so my family can bond with me. They even said they’ll support my new family for as long as they need to so that I can stay with them forever. Isn’t that awesome?

Charley’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Volunteers of the Month: Our Office Workers

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Last Hope has a core group of three women who perform our office tasks for us: Linda Pisney, Aggie Doyle, and Sherri Eichmeyer. They come into the Adoption Center and answer phones, take care of messages that were left, data entry, scan and upload information about the animals, and pretty much anything that needs to be done in the office. They help keep us organized and on top of paperwork that needs to be handled.

Linda Pisney has been volunteering for four years and she also helps take care of the dogs at the Adoption Center.

Aggie Doyle has been with us for about two years and she also gathers donation information so that we can create and send thank you letters to donors.

For almost four years, Sherri Eichmeyer has been volunteering at Last Hope. She says, “I  enjoy all the volunteers, and being around people with so much love for animals.”

People, of course, think about caring directly for the animals when they think about volunteering but there is so much more work that needs to go on “behind the scenes” to keep us running smoothly. So thank you, ladies, for helping to keep us on track!

Cat of the Week: Bermuda

Julia D Cat of the Week

Sing along now to this beautiful song!   Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take ya… to  Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty  Mama  …   Key Largo, Montego, Baby why don’t we go… ooh I wanna take ya… down to  Kokomo!! Bermuda and her littermates and mama (Bahama Mama) were rescued from horrific conditions in early June 2018.   They were all quite scared when they came in, and a few of the kittens were in need of medication, but they quickly came around and started enjoying attention and interaction with their foster family!  They have a playground of toys and huts to hide and play in and soft beds to lounge in … now they just need the purrfect family to find them and give them a loving home where they can continue to blossom!  All of them have been adopted except Bermuda and her mama – so it’s their turn now! She is now 7 months old and still waiting… 🙁 Bermuda is a beautiful little Patched Tabby and White female… her coloring is very similar to Bahama Mama’s fur – her mama!  Some people call any kitty with three colors a Calico – but a true Calico is mostly white with patches of solid black and orange/red.  With any tabby markings in the colored spots, it is no longer considered a true Calico… So with all the tabby markings in her blackish parts of her fur coat and in the ginger/yellow spots as well – in the ‘cat world’ she would be known as a Patched Tabby and White!  She was the most shy of all the kittens but she’s doing great now and loved to snuggle with all of them!  She is very sweet and with love, care and tenderness, she should be great with any family, too!  She is now very friendly with and loves to snuggle with Buster, so if you are looking to adopt a pair of kitties who know each other… check out our handsome longhaired black boy!

Bermuda’s adoption fee is $100 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip with lifetime registration.

Dog of the Week: Shadow

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hi, My name is  Shadow!    I am a goofy bundle of enthusiasm so I need to join a family with adults or older children. My idea of bliss is chasing the ball at the dog park or acting as your running partner. Anything to keep me active and exploring! I do fancy myself as a high jump champion so secure fencing is required.   I am looking to be the top dog in a one-dog home!   I have done doggy daycare and can get along with dogs, but when I am in my home I will not share my toys with other doggy companions.   I would like someone to continue my training and show me lots of attention. My mission is to treat every day as a new adventure and I am looking for my perfect partner in crime (of the good kind).

Shadow’s adoption fee is $250 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Cats of the Week: Breeze, Sunny, and Rain

Julia D Cat of the Week

Breeze has always been the cat in the house to take care of everyone else first. He will do fine as an only cat in the house but also loves cats of all ages. He is great with kids and sleeps with a 9-year-old every night and loves all of her friends when they visit. He is very curious still and is very loyal. He will be a great addition to any home!

Sunny is the petite princess kitty of the home. She struts her stuff but is so gentle. Sunny loves kids and cats of all ages. She loves having other cats around to snuggle with as she naps throughout the day. She also loves playing with toys as she is still very much a kitten.

Rain has been the warrior of the group and the most curious. He is the first to run up to you and make you pay attention to him in the morning. He puts his head right on your chin for some love. He will do great with kids, other cats, and alone. Please consider him as a companion.

All three cats are close to one year old.

The adoption fee for each kitty is $100 which includes spay/neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip with lifetime registration.

If you’re interested in any of these cuties, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cats of the Week: Neko and Nigel

Julia D Cat of the Week

Don’t be fooled by this button-nosed cat, Neko is up for all adventures!  He enjoys looking out the window and trying to get everyone to notice him.  He’s a bit scared to be picked up and held. He will sit on the floor and flip over to have his belly rubbed and is the first to jump on your lap!

Nigel loves to play and purr.  He enjoys chasing pretend mice.  He’s not a big fan of being held and picked up but loves his chin and ears scratched and would be a great lap cat after his playtime is over.

Neko and Nigel are brothers and very bonded with each other.  Neko is black with some white features and Nigel is white with some black features. Nigel and Neko spend a lot of time with each other and cuddle with each other when sleeping. They are both very affectionate cats and will make great additions to your family! We would like to see these two go to their forever home together.

If you’re interested in this great pair of boys, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.
