Dog of the Week: Buck

Julia D Dog of the Week

Don’t let the Buck stop here…bring him into your family! Six-year-old Buck is a male lab mix, he may have some pittie or Chesapeake retriever in him too, but we know this for sure – he’s handsome and deserves the best in a forever family! Before Buck joined Last Hope, he lived with an owner that kept him chained to a dog kennel outside and definitely neglected his needs. Buck was underweight when he joined us and is now working on gaining muscle and getting into tip-top shape!

Buck is a big boy, he loves a good came of catch and will gladly drop the ball and wait patiently while you throw for him. Buck is working on his manners, but his lab personality and zest for life make him sooo easy to love! An ideal home for Buck will have big dog experience, enjoy working with an active dog that loves to learn and please their owner, no small children or pets (including no cats at this time). What the Buck are you waiting for?? Fill out an application and meet this handsome dude today!

Buck’s adoption fee is $250 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Volunteer of the Month: Darcy McGuire and Family

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Kara and Elliot

Darcy McGuire has done MANY things for Last Hope: Fostering, events, fundraising, baking, processing applications, transports, adoptions, foster lead, home visits, meet and greets, matchmaking, helping with the intake of dogs, and scanning and uploading medical records. Her husband and two daughters have been involved with some of these tasks as well and have been an enormous help to Darcy and the dogs they foster. Here is some of her history in her own words:

Zoey

“Our family found Last Hope through Petfinders when we were looking to adopt a puppy. Funny we didn’t even know about Last Hope. I was wanting to find somewhere I could volunteer and would truly enjoy. A volunteer had told me ‘Darcy you should foster, what a better way to find the perfect puppy to adopt and Last Hope always needs fosters.’ A short few weeks and we had puppies in our home. We did adopt one of the girls but kept on fostering. Some have been long-term fosters. Our family has fostered 18 or more since 2015. I have to confess a few fosters I had to sneak in after my husband went to bed! We as a family have foster failed three times now.

Izzy

I have always loved dogs. Growing up my family always had at least one dog at a time. If ever I would find a loose dog I would do my best in finding its home. By the way, if you see a white Sorento circling your neighborhood, it could very well be me trying to catch a loose dog!

Zoey, Izzy, Camille, Petey, and Calvin

When I went to orientation to become a volunteer I found there were many great ways to volunteer. There were opportunities for everyone. Being a person who has a big heart for animals I was very excited. Often I found myself overextended but always found my way.”

We are grateful for volunteers like Darcy and her family!

Dog of the Week: Carew

Julia D Dog of the Week

Carew is just about as cute as they come! She is a young female, playful and super loving with people. If you look closely, you’ll notice that’s Carew just loves to smile! Carew is looking for a forever home with no cats or small dogs, please! She may enjoy living with another medium to large calmer dog, but will need an introduction to see if it would be a fit of course!

Carew loves to play with toys, so a nice big fenced in yard with someone who would enjoy playing fetch would be heaven for her!

Carew’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you need this smile in your life, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Cat of the Week: Ruffles

Julia D Cat of the Week

Ruffles is a feisty young thing with a lot of love to give! She’s a chatty girl (she can hold up her end of a conversation, for sure!), with plenty of personality and an appetite to match. She love, love, LOVES to play, is entranced by YouTube videos of fish and birds, and enjoys a good game of chase around the house. She wants to be the lone queen of her household and hasn’t quite learned that hands and feet aren’t toys yet, so a home with older children or adults would be most suitable. Ruffles has boundless energy and loves new stimulating experiences. She can be easily startled by loud noises and is rather squirmy if you pick her up, but she’ll rub against you and purr while she sits on your lap just as happily as playing like she’s the mightiest hunter in the forest.

The adoption fee for Ruffles is $85 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip with lifetime registration.

Dog of the Week: Fiona

Julia D Dog of the Week

If you LOVE labs, Fiona is the girl for you! She’s smart, energetic and playful. Fiona is around 5 to 6 years old, she is potty trained and knows basic commands. She has wonderful energy and will make a fantastic walking partner and thoroughly enjoy a back yard to play in. Fiona will do best with male dogs near her size, older children that can appreciate an energetic companion and no cats.

Fiona’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Cat of the Week: Sinatra

Julia D Cat of the Week

This handsome boy is waiting for his perfect forever home! He has a beautiful smoky black and brown coat- pictures don’t do him justice! He loves to cuddle and give kisses. He loves to talk to you and will tell you when it’s time for dinner or he wants attention. He does startle some with fast movement or loud noises – but he loves the 5-year-old in his foster home. He’s ok with other cats and cat savvy dogs. He would do best with animals that are likely to leave him be. He came to us with some hair loss – they said the older cats on the farm were beating up on him and he wasn’t handling it well. The vet thinks the hair loss is from stress. His hair is growing back very nicely but he does look a bit scraggly still. This affectionate boy will be the perfect addition to his new family!

Sinatra’s adoption fee is $100 which includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, and a microchip with lifetime registration.

Dog of the Week: Lucy

Julia D Dog of the Week

Beautiful and refined is the best way to describe this living doll. Lucy is just one big smiling face waiting to give you a lick hello. Lucy loves to be active, so if you are looking for a jogging companion or someone to take long walks with, then Lucy is your girl and she walks very well on a leash.

Lucy gets along well with everyone including respectful children. She enjoys learning and responds well to training. She loves to please her people! Lucy is looking to be the top dog in a one-dog home. No cats either, please! Lucy would love an adventurous life with you! Everything from walks to car rides or just cuddling on a rainy day.

Lucy’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

Volunteer of the Month: Leah Williams

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Throughout the six years of volunteering with Last Hope Animal Rescue Leah has fostered 28 dogs and cats, organized/helped with countless events , completed/scanned paperwork, started/switched/folded hundreds of loads of laundry, attended adoption events, assisted with intakes, given her love to hundreds of cats and dogs, and many more things because she is always willing to jump in wherever when it comes to the animals.

Leah started off by searching for a dog to adopt and found Last Hope and saw the option to foster. She thought it would be a good way to find a dog that would get along with her current dog, Precious, and her daughter Rebecca who was six at the time. They fostered a couple of dogs, then Cisco came along. He was very timid at first but with love from Leah and her daughter, he slowly came around to the point where Rebecca could carry him around the house like a baby doll. When foster families end up adopting their foster dog we affectionately call that a “foster failure.” Cisco was Leah and Rebecca’s first foster failure.

Margie was their second foster failure. She started out very afraid of human interaction but through lots of patience and love, she now begs for attention and will paw at Leah’s hand to be petted and get a belly rub.

And the third foster failure was with Shira, a dog from Egypt. She had a couple of bouts with flu-like symptoms and Leah and her family nursed her back to health. It took Shira six months to get used to Leah’s now husband, Troy. She used to bark at every move he made in the house. But she came around and now she’s part of one big, happy family.

Leah says, “My life would be SO different without all of the dogs who have come and gone through my life and Last Hope.  Each of them has literally left an imprint in my heart.  It can be hard to let my fosters go, but I also know that when we find their forever home I can begin to save a new one!”

Leah and her family are true foster family gems. We know we can count on them to take in even challenging fosters and have the patience and love to help turn them around and get them ready for adoption. Thank you Leah, Rebecca, and Troy!

Dog of the Week: Sassy

Julia D Dog of the Week

Hi! My name is Sassy, but my friends say I’m more sweet than I am sassy! My favorite thing in this world is people! I love them all big and small. I get so excited when I meet them my whole body wiggles to show off my excitement. I have lived with kids before and am quite fond of them. I am house trained and I don’t mind my crate so I will go in there and wait for you to come back if you have to go to work. I am happy to sleep quietly at the end of a bed all night, too!

I get along with most other dogs as long as you introduce me properly.  I have graduated a basic obedience class and am working my way through obedience 2, I’m a fast learner and treat motivated! I’m looking for an owner that loves to go on adventures and is looking for a new best friend to join them!

Sassy’s adoption fee is $250 which includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations, a microchip with lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you would love to include Sassy on your adventures, please complete an application HERE or email adoptions@adopthope.org.

Happy Tail: Piper

Julia D Happy Tails

Mary was searching online for a kitten when she came across Piper (FKA Lulu). She was particularly interested in adopting an orange tabby and Piper happened to be born on Mary’s birthday so it seemed like fate.

The adjustment period was pretty easy because Piper is a very outgoing cat. She gets along well with the other cat and dog already in the household.

Piper is very affectionate and everyone who meets her wants to take her home! She loves to sit on laps, snuggle with the dog, do food puzzles, eat, and of course knock over glasses of water.

Mary, Shaun, and Alec are loving having Piper in their home.

Thank you for giving her a loving forever home!
