“Mama Cat” Jackie arrived at Last Hope earlier this year as a young, single mom with six adorable, tiny babies in tow. Although she was a loving and attentive mama cat, Jackie’s work as mama is now done. Her babies have flown the coop, and she can enjoy retirement from parenting responsibilities. Jackie is approximately 1.5 years old. She is a medium size gal, with very soft light grey tabby striped and greenish eyes. She is a bit timid at first with new people but warms up easily. She arches her back and will headbutt your hand for more petting when you stop. Jackie warms up faster to women than men but will warm up to a kind and soft-spoken man, as she did at her foster home.

Jackie is in good health, albeit she has some discoloration in her left eye that the vet felt was probably is leftover from an infection she had as a youngster. It appears to be strictly cosmetic, however, and she does not display symptoms of any visual impairment. Jackie is still young at heart and likes to play with toys as much as she likes to bask in the sunlight. She would be happiest in a home with no dogs, or very mellow cat-savvy dogs. She can be intimidated by boisterous and loud children. She would be happier with older kids and adults. She does get along with most other cats and enjoys their companionship. The ideal situation for her would be a quiet home with one or two other cats.

Monkey is an all-black female kitty who was rescued from a feral colony in Iowa City. She has been with us for over a year. She can be a little timid at first, but she has really come out of her shell. She would probably do best in a quieter home, but she does get along with the other cats in her room at our adoption center. Once she realizes humans aren’t bad, she’s definitely up for a good ear and belly rub!

Cousin came to Last Hope with Monkey after being rescued from a feral colony. He is neutered and up to date on his shots. He is shy and timid and is slowly learning humans will love him and take care of him. He’s recently decided a good ear scratch isn’t a bad thing and will reward the petting with lots of purrs. Cousin is a healthy and frisky kitten who loves to play with other cats and kittens.

Josie is a sweet girl when her people are around. She’s a little unsure of strangers but once she has bonded with you she shows you her love.  She would do best in a quieter household and as the only animal.  We have learned through fostering that she thrives when she is an only cat.  When she has the perfect set up Josie is a sweet girl looking for stroking, attention, and love, but you have to meet Josie on her terms.  Once she accepts you she will greet you at the door and beg for your attention.

Ruffles is a feisty young thing with a lot of love to give! She’s a chatty girl (she can hold up her end of a conversation, for sure!), with plenty of personality and an appetite to match. She love, love, LOVES to play, is entranced by YouTube videos of fish and birds, and enjoys a good game of chase around the house. She wants to be the lone queen of her household and hasn’t quite learned that hands and feet aren’t toys yet, so a home with older children or adults would be most suitable. Ruffles has boundless energy and loves new stimulating experiences. She can be easily startled by loud noises and is rather squirmy if you pick her up, but she’ll rub against you and purr while she sits on your lap just as happily as playing like she’s the mightiest hunter in the forest.

Oshi has a sweet little meow and ‘trill,’ and she’s a good-sized girl who loves to play with sparkly balls, catnip toys and balls with bells inside them!  She’s a talker and purrs easily!  Due to her compromised health issue (a long period of diarrhea), it took her a while to learn how to interact with other kitties, but she’s gotten along fine with other cats when housed in the Coralville Petsmart Adoption Center, in Coralville, IA – so we are sure with proper introduction she will be able to integrate with other kitties in a new home!   We’re betting she will love to lay on someone’s lap and make up for lost cuddle time, too!

Scout is a sweet little lady who is loving life indoors! She was on the streets, being fed by one of our volunteers for several months before we gained her trust enough to bring her in. We found out she had been TNR’d the year before by one of the neighbors. Now that she’s been inside and warm we’re pretty sure she’s never going to give up her cat bed! (Seriously, she loves that bed!)

We’re still getting to know her but she’s done well with cats, dogs, and kids so far and we think she would make the perfect addition to any family! Her only requests are a window to nap in and someone who’s willing to scratch her back!
