Dog of the Week: Porter

Julia D Dog of the Week

Porter joined Last Hope after his owners abandoned him, leaving him behind when they moved away.  This wonderfully loving boy deserves the very best in a forever home and we’re excited to introduce you to him!  Porter has lived with other dogs and children, he is not interested in a home with small animals but instead prefers the company of mellow dogs his size. He has done doggie daycare and is submissive and playful with dogs his size in a small group setting   Even better would be a home all his own. In his younger years, Porter was known for his ability to jump a fence…he has proven young at heart and can still do this when tempted! He is mellowed out now at around 6 years old, and with a responsible owner who would never leave him unattended, this really should not be an issue.  Porter rides in the car like a champ and he will make a wonderful companion for someone seeking a friendly dog that is moderately active. Porter is strong on a leash, but he is respectful and listens very well! He does not need to be kenneled when left alone. He loves walks!

Porter’s adoption fee is $250 and includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with free lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you’d like to give this boy the home he deserves, please complete an adoption application HERE to meet him.

Volunteer of the Month: Mindy Nolan

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Mindy learned about Last Hope while she was in school at Kirkwood. She’s been volunteering with us for a little over a year and she is a definite asset to the team!

She volunteers most Thursday evenings taking care of the dogs at the Adoption Center. This can be hard and dirty work but she’s committed to helping them out. She gets food and water for them, cleans their kennels, folds laundry, does dishes, takes the dogs outside, etc. Sometimes she gives baths and takes them on walks when the weather is nice. In addition to her Thursday nights, she also volunteers at events and is a foster mom for dogs. So far she has fostered five dogs.

When asked why she likes to volunteer at Last Hope Mindy said, “I believe in rescuing animals and finding them loving homes that they deserve. I love cuddling with all the dogs and seeing how much they change over their time with us.”

Volunteers like Mindy who are dependable and dedicated are so important for us to be able to fulfill our mission of helping homeless animals. Thank you, Mindy, for all your hard work!

Cat of the Week: Merry

Julia D Cat of the Week

Merry is the sweetest girl for all she has been through. She was found as a stray, very skinny and with infections in both of her eyes. She did end up losing one eye, but the other seems to be working fine. Merry will need to be an only cat, she isn’t ok with sharing her human with other cats. Merry is a little over three years old.

Merry’s adoption fee is $85 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, and a microchip with free lifetime registration.

If you’d like to meet Merry, please complete an adoption application HERE.

Happy Tail: Murphy

Julia D Happy Tails

Molly had been looking on social media and PetFinder for a dog to add to their family. She saw Prince Charming and Snow White but they were originally listed together and she knew they weren’t ready to bring two dogs into their home. She kept looking and one day noticed that the two dogs were listed separately and she knew they had to meet them to see which one would fit best into their family. They met Prince Charming at a PetSmart event and they fell in love with his goofy smile and need for constant belly rubs!

The family (Molly, Sean, and McKayla) fostered him first because they already had four pets in their home and they wanted to make sure he would fit in well. After about a month of everything going well, they made it official and adopted him. He is now known as Murphy and they absolutely adore him.

Molly says, “Murphy is the snuggliest dog I have ever met! He always knows when one of us needs some extra attention and he loves to be the little spoon! He also almost always has his tongue hanging out, and we affectionately refer to it as his ‘blep.'”

Murphy loves going to the dog park, playing with rope toys, cuddling, and watching the cat hunt bugs.

He may not be named Prince Charming anymore, but he sure ended up with a “happily ever after!” We’re so glad Molly was persistent in her search and her family gave him such a wonderful forever home. Happy life, Murphy!

Dog of the Week: Presley

Julia D Dog of the Week

Presley is a laid-back girl looking for a home to call her own. She loves to lounge on the couch almost as much as she loves going for walks and hanging out in the yard. Presley is great with other dogs, cats, and kids. She does seem to do best with dogs smaller than her, so she may not be a match with other large dogs (she weighs 60 pounds).  She does tend to bark when alone and has that typical coon hound bay so she would not be well suited for an apartment. She has also discovered the neighborhood squirrels and would be content to spend all day keeping watch under their tree, so she needs a home with great (and safe!) outdoor space.

Presley’s adoption fee is $250 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with free lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you have a great home for Presley and would like to meet her, please complete an adoption application HERE.

Cat of the Week: Kit Kat

Kit Kat’s adoption fee is $85 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, and a microchip with free lifetime registration.

Dog of the Week: Spencer

Julia D Dog of the Week

Spencer is a nearly 10-year-old male Jack Russell Terrier. He does have some ongoing medical concerns including arthritis in his spine, a newly repaired hip joint, and some limited hearing.  Spencer is a wonderful semi-senior dog with lots of love to give to a compassionate human, and he won’t mind sharing his forever home with other dogs or cats.  Spencer is not a fit with younger children; he does have some lingering pain that could cause him to be snappy and he startles easily with his limited hearing.  Spencer is also somewhat incontinent however, he very successfully wears a belly band and enjoys getting outside often. He can handle moderate or limited exercise, but will not be an ideal walking companion given that he lived for many years with a serious injury to his backend so he does have some lingering lameness.  Spencer is happiest snuggled up in a dog bed all day, and he loves to stick to a schedule so will bark to let you know if dinner is running late! He will be most happy with someone who is mostly home during the day, although he is kennel trained, he prefers your company after all! Spencer will gladly sleep on your bed all night long, but he will need you to lift him up and down as he should no longer be jumping given the surgery he has had to repair what was a very badly damaged hip joint (surgery is known as an FHO).  Spencer does take some medicine long-term to ease any arthritis pain or inflammation, and this will need to be continued.

Spencer’s adoption fee is $200 and includes neuter surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with free lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you think you can provide a happy home for Spencer, please complete an adoption application HERE.

Cat of the Week: Missy

Julia D Cat of the Week

Look at those beautiful green eyes! Missy is a sweet young lady who would love to find a forever home. She is a little shy still but has come a long way. She loves treats so finding your way to her heart won’t be hard at all! She is about 2-3 years old.

Missy’s adoption fee is $85 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, and a microchip with free lifetime registration.

If you’d like to meet this beautiful girl, please complete an adoption application HERE.

Dog of the Week: Gabby

Julia D Dog of the Week

Gabby is an 18lb chiweenie who loves to cuddle with her best friend Paisley Blue, another adoptable Last Hope dog that is looking for her forever home, too! Gabby is around 2 years old so a great mix of playful and calm. She loves going for walks, treats, and chewing on toys. Gabby gets along well with the large dogs and cat in her current foster home, but does best with more relaxed animals and sometimes needs to be reminded to back down if play gets too exciting. She is not a fit with smaller dogs and she ultimately needs to be in a home with another big dog to be happy (if you don’t have a second dog now – consider adopting BOTH Gabby AND Paisley Blue).  Gabby would do best with humans and animals that respect her space at times when she wants to be left alone and are willing to make sure she has comfy spaces to lounge and cuddle so older children (12+) will be the best match. Gabby is NOT a fit in an apartment or multi-family home, she will bark when left home alone so someone who isn’t gone long hours is also ideal for her.

Gabby’s adoption fee is $250 and includes spay surgery, being up to date on vaccinations and preventives, a microchip with free lifetime registration, and a free obedience class.

If you think you have the right home for Gabby and would like to meet her, please complete an adoption application HERE.

Volunteer of the Month: Aleah Longner

Julia D Volunteer of the Month

Aleah started volunteering for Last Hope in 2017, signing up for a couple of cat care shifts a week. Those shifts involved giving food and water, cleaning litter boxes, washing bowls, administering medication, socializing with the cats, etc. From there she also helped with writing the online profiles for the cats, updating medical files, working at open houses, assisting with adoptions and home visits, and some transports to the vet for medical care.

As if all that wasn’t enough, she decided she wanted to try her hand at fostering cats while they were waiting for their forever homes. She started helping out with the applications for the cats, distributing the applications to the foster parents and processors who would work on the applications, and setting up meetings at the Adoption Center for applicants.

Aleah is a valued member of the cat team for all the work she does. About volunteering at Last Hope she says, “I have enjoyed volunteering for Last Hope as it’s a great team of people who share the same compassion for animals like myself, working together to help each animal to find their forever homes but also being in each animal’s corner regardless of what the situation is. They put the animals’ needs first and even those that may have medical needs or different circumstances. It has been a pleasure volunteering for Last Hope and assisting the cat adoption team. I have met some of the most amazing kitties there and the team of people are pretty amazing too.”

Thank you for ALL you do, Aleah! The kitties and cat team members really appreciate your hard work and dedication.
